This role will give you great foundations in Mental Health and SEN education to take into your Criminal and Youth Justice aspirations, especially if you aspire to work in Criminal, Youth Justice, Social Justice.
If you have sincere and genuine aspirations within Probation or Parole, advocacy in the Criminal Justice System in general, this is a great SEN LSA role in which to start towards those aspirations. GSL requires someone who wants to sincerely advocate for SEMH children, understanding the student’s successes and challenges, all seen through a clinical and progressive and pragmatic lens.
The school like to invest in their Psychology Graduates who have sincere aspirations, those understand your objectives and goals within the industry. Successful Psychology Graduates will be working with secondary aged children, 11-18, who have low tolerance levels for stress, in the school’s specialist SEMH hub in Northampton.
If you have ambitions within advocacy and social care, this is a good role to start in. The school are actively investing in a SEN focussed Hub too, a different approach and challenge that the school accommodates for.
Being able to raise student’s emotional & academic attainment is crucial, the ability to connect, the first objective is to ensure the children feel safe in their surroundings. At the point of referral to the provision many pupils have additional, associated and sometimes complex needs, which may include low tolerance of stress, social anxiety, ADHD (Attention Deficit and Hyperactivity Disorder); ADD (Attention Deficit Disorder); ODD (Oppositional Defiant Disorder).
It won’t always be apparent if a child is in the school and has an EHCP for their SEMH, when it could possibly be for an element of SEN that has been missed. This is an sub optimal position to be in and can happen, much the same as children who are in the mainstream, could well prosper better in a SEN specialist school.
