The Opportunity
As an Applications & Field Service Engineer you will provide technical (onsite and remote) support and training to customers across the Materials Analysis Group product range of analytical equipment. The Materials Analysis Group is made up of our Asylum Research, Magnetic Resonance, NanoAnalysis and WITec businesses.
The individual will provide primary onsite technical and applications support to customers, in the UK with a requirement for overseas travel to support our distributor territories, (principally located in southern European countries, South Africa, Africa, Middle East, Turkey, Israel, and other countries not supported by an OI office). The role requires self-motivation and excellent problem-solving abilities. The role is home based and should be situated in a region able to support customers in the South of the UK, although UK wide travel is required.

Based remotely, with frequent national and international travel.
About You
The Applications & Field Service Engineer will ideally have the following skills and attributes: Science Degree/PhD preferably in Electronics, Physics, Materials Science, Metallurgy, or Chemistry Knowledge within the microanalysis field in particular, EDS/EBSD (Electron Back-Scatter Diffraction)/ Nanomanipulators/WDS would be an advantage, but not essential. Knowledge of Raman, magnetic Resonance, and AFM would also be advantageous. Experience of running TEM/SEM would be an advantage, but not essential. A sound understanding of electronic pc-based systems.
Personal Qualities
Sound problem solving abilities. Desire to own customer issues through to resolution The Individual should require the minimum of supervision and is subject to a flexible work pattern, which will involve global travel and / or working outside normal working hours when necessary. The post holder is responsible for ensuring the efficient and cost-effective use of their time. A recent graduate, experienced engineer, or user of EDS / WDS / EBSD / Nanomanipulator / Raman is desirable. Ability to work unsupervised and to tight deadlines. Ability to effectively and professionally interact with customers at all levels. Full UK driving license is essential.
Key Responsibilities for the Applications & Field Service Engineer Perform onsite installations of systems and software. Perform onsite preventative maintenance visits. Provide user orientation training at point of installation. Provide onsite assistance to customers to resolve instrument breakdowns. Take ownership of customer problems and liaise with internal departments to resolve issues. Promote a positive image of Oxford Instruments MAG / Customer Support in all communications, whether in person, by telephone or written. Advise customer on availability of instrumentation related options, upgrades and support contracts to keep the customer up to date and satisfied and optimise service revenue streams. Desire to maximise support efficiency and customer value and intimacy using the latest OI techniques in IoT Telemetry and Augmented reality Feedback customer needs to Service business manager to assist in creating new support products Feedback of customer and service needs to Service product manager for future serviceability in product design. Ensure all customer issues are captured and reported back via the field service management system Perform other related duties as assigned by manager.
