Job summary

Here at Defence Primary Healthcare (DPHC), we are inclusive and dedicated, working to provide excellent care to our entitled personnel.

We are looking for a friendly, well-organised and adaptable Dental Receptionist, to join our supportive and welcoming team of healthcare professionals and administrative staff working within the Dental Centre Edinburgh, Redford Barracks.

The vacant post is a full-time position at 37 hours per week. Request to work flexibly and or part time will be considered taking into account business needs.

Job description

As the successful candidate, you will provide friendly, efficient service to enable patients to access dental care. Arrange appointments and recalls for all entitled personnel ensuring maximum use of the clinicians’ time to meet Defence Primary Healthcare (DPHC) Dental targets for dental health.

You will be offering administrative support for the surgeries, Senior Dental Officer (SDO) and the Practice Manager (PM).

Person specification

Main duties of the role will include but are not limited to:

  • Initial contact with patients and ensuring the reception area is maintained and tidy at all times.
  • Ensuring that Form Medical 271s are available for each surgery (if requested) at the beginning of the working day and are meticulously filed in the appropriate locked cabinets at the end of the working day
  • Maintaining the appointment diary, making appointments (including Hospital appointments where applicable) as requested by Dental Officers (DOs) and the Dental Hygienist. Informing the Clinician concerned should it prove impossible to appoint a patient at a particularly requested time.
  • Actioning all recall reports, taskings and nominal roles from Defence Medical Integrated Capability Programme (DMICP) and making the appropriate appointments.
  • Work collaboratively with professional colleagues and in the best interests of patients.

This job role may be suitable for hybrid working, which is an informal, non-contractual and voluntary arrangement, blending a balance of attendance in the workplace (your permanent duty station which is based on business assessment of where the work is best done) and working from home as a personal choice (if the role is suitable for this). If you are successful, any opportunities for hybrid working will be discussed with you prior to you taking up your post.
