We have an exciting opportunity to become an ACA at our Animal Centre for a fixed term 12 month contract (with potential for this to be extended).

The position is full time (37.5 hours per week), 8.30am - 5pm with 1 hour unpaid lunch break on a rota basis covering 7 days a week , working 2 in 4 weekends.
The role requires a physically fit, animal welfare passionate and highly dedicated person.
Having an animal care qualification is desirable but not as important as having confident handling skills and understanding of domestic pets. Full training is provided during the 6 month probation period.
Excellent communication and customer service skills are essential for this role, alongside the ability to work well within a small, close team.
Computer and internet skills are also essential as the Animal Centre is 75% electronic using a for non profit Google G Suite
- Principal Accountabilities
- To provide care for animals in the Centre, to establish good customer relations and maintain administration procedures in use.
- Prepare and provide food and water for all animals in the establishment.
- Clean, disinfect and maintain to a standard of cleanliness set by management of animal accommodation, isolation and exercise areas; food preparation, laundry and storage. Staff facilities including toilets and outside areas. Ensure buildings/exercise areas are secure at all times.
- Carry out checks on animals, including the taking of temperature and inspection of eyes, ear, nose and throat for signs of infection or abnormality, reporting any abnormalities to a Supervisor or the Duty Manager.
- Assist with the inspection and or treatment of animals by a Veterinary Surgeon, or other authorised person at the Centre.
- Attend to the needs of the individuals, including exercise, coat care/grooming, administration of first aid, treatments and medications as directed including and to assist with the humane destruction of animals, including carcass disposal.
- Undertake routine animal behaviour monitoring/assessment/rehabilitation programmes prior to re-homing.
- Attend to the needs of the client/customer/general public, face to face. Liaise with colleagues in other departments/RSPCA Branch worker /voluntary helpers /Society Employees.
- Complete documentation relating to the REHOMING of animals.
- Maintain written and computerised records as required.
- To undertake other duties as required by the Animal Centre Management.
- While at work all staff are required to: Take care of their own health and safety and that of others who may be affected by their acts and omissions.
- Co-operate with Branch policies and procedures for health and safety
