The Role

This role presents an exciting opportunity to an individual with a background in physical characterisation, ideally obtained within a pharmaceutical environment. The Analytical Scientist role is a critical position in the Physical Characterisation operational team with responsibilities including; conducting high quality analysis based on customer requirements using a range of cutting edge technologies, client communication, review of data in line with our quality framework and training of other staff in area of expertise.

You will have the opportunity to;

  • Contribute to challenging laboratory-based analytical project work, including; discussions with clients, preparation of project plans and conducting analytical work. You will also be supported in review of data and presentations to clients. The specific technical areas will be driven by your current expertise as well as your personal development objectives.
  • Perfect your skills in method development and validation, including drafting of related documents (methods, protocols, reports).
  • Develop project management skills on simple, moving to more complex analytical projects
  • Retain and develop technical skills and knowledge by maintaining awareness of scientific literature to assist work progression.
  • Contribute to company goals and operate in accordance with our company values.
  • Build excellent customer relationships through regular, proactive communication, high quality assessment and presentation of data against the clients needs.

Sounds great! What we are looking for from you:

  • BSc or higher in an analytical, chemical or related scientific field with demonstrated, relevant experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform analytical experiments with high attention to detail.
  • Practical, experience with physical characterisation techniques including;

o particle sizing (image and laser diffraction),

o droplet sizing,

o specific surface area,

o XRPD,

o thermal analysis,

o dynamic light scattering and/or nanoparticle tracking analysis,

o zeta-potential,

o dynamic vapour sorption

o raw materials testing including autotitration, Karl Fischer, wet chemistry pharmacopeial testing

o elemental analysis using either ICP-MS or ICP-OES

Please note that practical experience with all of these techniques is not essential. Candidates with hands on, experience with a minimum of two of the techniques listed and theoretical understanding of others would be considered.

  • Experience of working to tight deadlines; a “right first time” approach.
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative, think and work independently, problem-solve, work in teams and multitask.
  • Able to identify and highlight own training needs, and proactively upskill.
  • Strong written and oral communications skills; IT Literate.
  • Role is subject to probation and training on internal processes.

Working Hours

  • Full time (37.5hrs per week).
