Scottish Enterprise (SE) is Scotland’s national economic development agency and a non-departmental public body of the Scottish Government. Our purpose is to help businesses innovate and scale to transform the economy. We are a key delivery partner for the Scottish Government’s National Strategy for Economic Transformation.
The role
Working within the Finance Systems and Reporting team, you’ll help deliver a financial reporting service across SE and contribute to the maintenance and development of our core finance systems.
As well as delivering a first-class financial reporting service, you’ll provide key financial data and analysis to support decision making that maximises the value of our services and helps unlock Scotland’s vast economic potential. In this role, you’ll also have the chance to learn skills in developing financial systems, processes and controls.
Your responsibilities will include:
- You'll deliver a financial reporting service to our operational teams using a variety of reporting solutions (such as Infor Q&A Excel, PowerBI). This may require designing ad hoc specific reports to meet operational needs. To make sure requests are correctly interpreted, you’ll need to understand the underlying financial transactions within reports.
- You'll take responsibility (with other systems team members) for the maintenance, development, and administration of our corporate finance systems. This includes the control of user access to systems, maintenance of standing data within applications, and protecting the integrity of data held within finance applications.
- You'll provide guidance and support on finance systems to colleagues across SE so they can plan, monitor and manage the financial aspects of their activities. You’ll proactively liaise with colleagues to share knowledge and awareness of services provided by the Financial Accounting Team.
Who we're looking for
You’ll be comfortable working on your own initiative and with members of a team. With a flexible and adaptable approach, you’ll manage your own workload to meet strict deadlines. You’ll enjoy problem-solving and applying logic to find solutions.
You'll bring knowledge and understanding of how transactions should be recorded on a finance ledger, and experience in delivering financial information to a variety of audiences.
Your skills, abilities and experience should include:
- Qualifications or skills and experience in a relevant subject at SCQF Level 8 (such as Higher National Diploma, Advanced Diploma)
- Demonstrable experience designing and running financial reports
- High levels of understanding of the underlying bookkeeping entries required for a range of financial transactions
- Confidence using Microsoft Excel, including functionality such as pivot tables, and a range of formulas
Ideally, but not essentially, you’ll also:
- Possess or be working towards a professional qualification with a recognised accounting body (e.g. Institute of Chartered Accountants in Scotland, Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales, Chartered Institute of Management Accountants, Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy, Association of Chartered Certified Accountants)
- Have experience in a systems administrator role
- Have experience using PowerBI
What we offer
If successful, you'll gain access to the following benefits:
- Membership of the Scottish Enterprise Pension and Life Assurance Scheme – a pension based on your final pensionable salary, flexible retirement options and generous life assurance cover
- Up to 43 annual leave days a year (including public holidays) with the opportunity to buy additional holidays
- Flexible working arrangements
- A health cash plan
- Our Employee Retail Benefits Scheme
- Our Employee Assistance Scheme
