Job description

Who we are

Genecon is one of the UK’s leading economics and place-making consultancy, recognised for providing innovative solutions to tackle the changes affecting places in the 21st century.

Our multi-skilled team of trusted advisors bring creativity, confidence and fresh insights to every project. We blend intelligent, creative and critical thinking with a genuine passion for helping places succeed and a no-nonsense way of working. It’s this combination that sets us apart and it’s why organisations from across the UK come back to us time and time again.

Although we take pride in our technical expertise and rigorous approach, we don’t believe in making place economics unnecessarily complicated. Ultimately, our work has a real-life impact for the people who live, work and spend time in the places we help to shape. That’s why we focus on providing real solutions to real problems, for real people. We say what we mean and every one of our clients can rely on us to provide them with excellent results. This document sets out how we do economics and place-making differently and what you can expect from working with us.

What we are looking for

For us, the essence of what we do at Genecon is equip our clients with the confidence to make brave decisions and take bold steps that ultimately make a positive difference to their places.

As a company we’re growing and its vital that we have a team with different voices, ideas and talents. It allows us to combine our experience with a progressive, cutting-edge and curious approach to project delivery.

Above all, our people are all passionate about places and people. We see our work as a craft, and our individual roles as those of innovators, explorers and trusted advisors. It’s our collective commitment to the quality of our output, the value we place on our relationships - both internally and externally - and the courage to do things differently that sets us apart.

We look for core skills and particular attitudes over experience and specific qualifications. That said, an undergraduate degree is a must.

Core Skills and Qualifications

We look for people who are analytical, inquisitive, positive, ‘lifelong learners’, problem solvers and who enjoy a challenge. They must have excellent written and data analysis skills or it will be a struggle.

We’re very keen on ‘different voices’, opinions and approaches too. Applicants with passion, experience or a qualification in the areas of environmental science (net zero), physics, social value/sciences, psychology, anthropology, urban culture and micro-economics will all be welcomed.

The Culture

We are a small boutique firm who punches significantly above our weight. We put the development and well being of our team at the heart of the business. There are no barriers to development or advancement outside of a team members willingness and drive to learn and evolve.

Joining Genecon will mean you will be active at all levels of the business, you will be given a platform to voice your ideas and opinions and an opportunity to work on some of the most interesting and impactful economic and place transformation work going on in the UK today. You will get to work alongside partners, directors and industry specialists and experts on a raft of projects throughout the year, you will be supported and heard in an inclusive, supportive and collaborative environment.

We have a flexible working policy, actively encourage home based working with an option for you to choose office based when and if required. We also support hot desking and outreach research work on projects. We also encourage and support outside learning and advanced academic pursuit.

Noble Purpose

In 2020, genecon was acquired by RSBG UK, the patient capital investment arm of RAG-Stiftung.

RAG-Stiftung is a foundation with the long-term mission to generate sustainable revenues to support environmental, social and economic change.

All of our profits fund this noble purpose and we look to embed it in the way we operate as a business, the way we deliver our projects, and the legacy that we leave behind.
