About Eurasia Group

Eurasia Group is the world's leading global political risk research and consulting firm. By providing information and insight on how political developments move markets, we help clients anticipate and respond to instability and opportunities everywhere they invest or do business. Our expertise includes developed and developing countries in every region of the world, specific economic sectors, and the business and investment playing fields of the future. With our best-in-class advisory and consulting offerings and GZERO Media, the Eurasia Group umbrella provides the marketplace with a complete political risk solution. Headquartered in New York, we have offices in Washington, London, San Francisco, Brasilia, Sao Paulo, Singapore, and Tokyo, as well as on-the-ground experts and resources in more than a hundred countries. "Politics first” grounds our work: Politics is the lens through which we view the world, and we are committed to analysis that is free of political bias and the influence of private interests.

Position overview:

Eurasia Group is seeking an experienced and motivated analyst of politics in the Central and Eastern European as well as Western Balkans region, with expertise in Polish, Hungarian and Romanian politics and political economy.

In this position, you will support coverage of Central and Eastern Europe and the Western Balkans for Eurasia Group's financial, corporate, and government clients. This will include domestic politics, economic trends, sectoral developments, and foreign policy issues across the regions. You will conduct in-depth research on both current developments and likely future trends. You will need to bring to the role a network of contacts in the major markets (Poland, Hungary and Romania) from the policymaking, think tank, and academic world.

Responsibilities:

  • Regular reporting and analysis of political and economic developments in Central and Eastern Europe as well as Western Balkans countries; tracking and commenting on key political, policy, and economic developments.
  • Frequent preparation of briefs, speaking notes, and background materials to support client-facing presentations.
  • Data collection, quantitative and qualitative research and analysis, strategic advice, and thought leadership in coverage area.
  • Support for the Europe Research team including project management, maintaining client relationships through regular briefings and contact, and mobilizing Eurasia Group firm-wide resources to serve client needs.
  • In-depth research and writing both short analyses and longer reports, frequently briefing clients on content.

Qualifications:

  • Language skills are essential.
  • An advanced degree (master’s degree preferred) in political science, international relations, or other relevant discipline (e.g., economics).
  • A mix of public sector and private sector experience; a management consulting background or other experience managing complex projects is a plus.
  • A minimum of 3-5 years’ experience working on politics and political economy of Central and Eastern Europe and the Western Balkans region. Previous research/consulting experience is critical for this role.
  • An in-depth knowledge of Poland, Hungary and Romania’s domestic politics and political economy; ideally also have familiarity with political and economic developments in other European countries.
  • Excellent oral presentation skills in English and being comfortable presenting and defending your analysis before senior executives at some of the world’s largest companies, which includes a proven ability to communicate complex concepts to non-experts, are a must. Candidates will be required to take a writing test.
  • Familiarity with macroeconomic and financial market concepts/issues is preferable.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to meet deadlines and manage competing demands.
  • Proficiency in the use of MS Office (especially Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) is required.

We strive to put politics first for our clients. This requires us to maintain a company culture that puts people first. We are committed to fostering an environment that is inclusive, empowering, and globally minded. We firmly believe that diversity in gender, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, cultural background, religion, disability, and age brings ideas and perspectives to the table that make our analysis stronger for our clients and make our company a better place to work for our people. Our leadership team is committed to embedding diversity and inclusion into everything we do and how we lead.
