Job Summary:
The Content Planning & Analysis function is responsible for providing support and implementing strategic rigor around content investment decisions for Disney+ EMEA original productions and acquisitions. Content Planning & Analysis collaborates closely with the Regional & Local Content Creative, Business Affairs and Finance executives, providing guidance on how to most efficiently spend finite budgets in order to drive maximum content engagement and subscriber acquisition. The department works in close collaboration with the Global CP&A team which is based in Burbank California.
The CP&A function is a sub-team of the EMEA Strategy & Business Development function. Strategy & Business Development is responsible for strategic initiatives, identifying growth opportunities, new product launches, joint ventures and M&A, as well as supporting the optimisation of business performance in EMEA. The team’s activities and accomplishments contribute to the growth and success of TWDC EMEA.
The Analyst, Content Planning & Analysis, will help to drive the analysis and evaluation of content investment efficiency and performance. This role will require managing the financial analysis for content greenlight, series renewals, external acquisitions, and other licensing arrangements.
The role requires superior analytical skills, as well as expertise in the content development process (from either a commissioning, production or financing point of view) – and the ability to apply these skills and insights effectively as part of the CP&A team. The individual must possess the ability to interface with multiple levels of management, ranging from senior corporate executives to leaders from across the Creative, Business Affairs and Production Management teams.
The Opportunity & Responsibilities
Content Planning & Analysis
Prepare content valuation analyses (model building, scenario testing etc.) to support the Business Affairs team in negotiations and Creative Executives with the greenlight decision making process
Provide advanced business modelling / analysis (including interpretation) of financial and content consumption data to support ongoing business operations
Process and manipulate data sets derived from a variety of sources and statistics
Compile insightful post-launch performance analyses to assess actual performance against CP&A targets, informing subsequent recommissioning decisions
Conduct and interpret analyses of key content drivers, trends and performance indicators at an aggregate level across historical content slates to determine areas for optimisation and improvement
Create insightful presentations, summarising key elements of CP&A analysis, and present them to groups of Disney+ managers and executives
Think creatively, and make effective use of market and industry insights, to support the ongoing development of CP&A workflows and methodologies
Strategy & Planning
Project based analysis of key market trends and competitor behaviour to inform all aspects of the TWDC EMEA content strategy (including editorial policy, slate planning, pricing, windowing, market prioritisation, quota compliance)
Lead analysis to support content investment strategies across Disney’s various media distribution outlets, including linear networks and direct-to-consumer
Support preparation of the annual content long range plan
The Experience We Require From You
Strong academic record – top level degree from a leading institution
Content Planning / Content Strategy / Content Insights / Research for a streaming business, major media organisation, production company or finance organisation either in or with the central BD / Strategy team and / or
Major media organisation, either in or with the central Business Development / Strategy teams (experience in EMEA markets, project management and / or Valuation is a plus)
Experience in financial and valuation models, statistical analysis
Demonstrates an ability to apply financial analysis in solving business problems and integrating analytical disciplines into operational decision making
Basic understanding of deal structures, financing and production models within the television and streaming industry
Demonstrable track record of delivery and ability to support and execute projects to an extremely high standard and to demanding deadlines
Strong analytics – ability to think in structured way (both conceptually and analytically) and to perform/ review complex quantitative analysis to inform business decisions
Excellent communication skills both verbal and written to be able to produce accurate reports and to engage with group employees of different countries and of all levels
Attuned to working effectively with financial and operational staff in business units and joint ventures around the world
Advanced MS Office skills, specifically Excel and PowerPoint, and ideally some experience with Big Data analytical tools, e.g. Tableau, Alteryx or similar
