This will be an almost fully remote position with travel in to the London Farringdon Office only expected every couple of months for team meetings.

About the Role
This is a varied role where no two days are the same, reporting into the Senior Statistician, working within a team of Data Analysts, with no direct reports



You will be responsible for setting the design, developing and maintaining three large scale internal statistical surveys, that ensure Royal Mail delivers its regulatory obligations, and contributes to Royal Mail's financial statement reporting, Quality of Service measurement, costing, pricing, and customer contract monitoring.



The role also significantly contributes to improving the accuracy of mail volume information, which is key to costing, productivity, and capacity planning. The key stakeholders you will be working with cover the breadth of the business, including Royal Mail’s senior leadership. The role requires you to conduct deep dive analyses of large datasets, identify areas of interest or concern, communicate insight, and propose improvement opportunities.


There is also opportunity to work outside of these principal areas, by providing statistical expertise and data analysis guidance to support various projects across the business.


You will also
  • Provide quality assurance of data and analyses from the internal surveys to ensure statistical robustness and fitness for purpose.
  • Develop statistical weighting systems and have the ability to manipulate the system to test hypotheses and deploy change.
  • Lead across all areas for the calculation of mail volumes using manual sampling counts, including sampling design, data validation and the calculation of mail counts, ensuring sound statistical methodology is employed throughout.
  • Direct stakeholders to areas of potential non-compliance to understand root causes and apply corrective measures; monitor the resultant effect to ensure that issues have been resolved.

About You
To truly excel in this role, you will possess, and be able to evidence, the skills and experience listed below:
  • Advanced numerical and analytical skills.
  • Minimum of Degree level qualification in Mathematics or Statistics.
  • Good interpersonal skills: can quickly establish relationships, engage and influence people.
  • Well-developed verbal and written communication skills, and able to communicate at all levels.
  • Able to challenge areas of non-compliance with all levels of management.
  • Able to work alone whilst meeting deadlines and operating as part of a virtual team of Data Analysts.
  • The ability to plan and prioritise activities to best utilise time, adding value to the business and ensuring a healthy work/life balance.
  • Have experience of working on large scale statistical surveys and applying statistical techniques to operational problems.
  • Have in depth knowledge and experience of working with statistical package Quantum or similar.
