The Role
Pool House Vets are looking for a dynamic Ambulatory Veterinary surgeon to join their team! This role is ideal for someone enthusiastic about developing a first-opinion client base. Our ambulatory vets are supported by a large team of specialists, residents, and interns at our clinic, whilst having a wide range of equine clientele from leading show jumpers to child’s first pony.There is considerable flexibility within the role to work up cases ‘on the road’ and grow in experience.
We are an Associate teaching practice with Nottingham University which gives added opportunities for professional development, and we actively encourage all our vets to study for RCVS Certificates.
The normal working week is five days Monday – Friday, with a 1:5 share of our unique ‘out of hours’ system meaning that night duties are followed by a day off! The ambulatory team cover a week on night-call but don’t work daytime shifts on their duty week which commences on a Friday evening, Saturday night is covered by a backup vet. The duty vet then continues Sunday through to Thursday night followed by a long weekend before commencing four weeks with no nights on call.
The salary for this role is up to £65,000 depending on experience.
About Us
Pool House Equine Clinic is part of the IVC Evidensia Equine Group, based in Lichfield only a short drive from the Derbyshire Dales and the Peak District National Park. With easy access to the motorway network, two mainline railway stations and Birmingham International Airport, Lichfield is almost literally the centre of England.The Equine Clinic is composed of two GA operating theatres and two standing theatres, a large preparation area including 3 x DR digital X-ray processing, two examination/radiography rooms and four sets of stocks. We care for all types of horses and have stabling for up to 34. We have a Hallmarq MRI system along with other equipment including mobile X-ray machines, multiple ultrasound machines, laser surgery, arthroscope, laparoscope, shock wave machines, a 3m digital gastroscope and two 1.4m fibreoptic endoscopes. We also have an in-house laboratory covering an extensive range of tests.
About the Team and Culture
The equine veterinary team consists of 21 full-time vets, of which six are residents and five are interns. We have two European Diplomats in Equine Surgery, one in Equine Dentistry and one part-time in Equine Internal Medicine. There are also five other RCVS certificate holders. The Vet team is supported by 4 fully qualified RVNs and one trainee. There is a full complement of yard staff, at least 5 receptionists at any one time and 5 full-time admin staff.Applicant Requirements
The successful candidate will be able to perform basic lameness examination, routine dental care, treat wounds and feel competent at lower limb radiography and ultrasound. They should feel at ease with upper respiratory tract endoscopy and guttural pouch examination. They should be able to do all the usual nerve and joint blocks below the carpus/hock.Because our employees matter
