“If you’re looking to start a career in the ambulance service, first4care is a fabulous place to start”

As an Ambulance Care Assistant, your role will be exciting and filled with variety where no two days are the same.

The rewarding role of the ambulance care assistant involves the transportation of non-emergency patients to and from hospital, clinic appointments and the patient's home as well as from Hospital to Hospital.

Crew members are trained as ambulance care assistants with specialist knowledge of comprehensive first aid, driving skills and patient moving and handling techniques. This can often be a good introduction to an excellent career working in the ambulance services.

This is a responsible role which requires a professional and caring attitude. If you have experience of caring for people and proven customer care and communication skills with the public, then we would like to hear from you. You will need to be flexible, adaptable, and at times, discreet.

About us

first4care is a private Ambulance service provider based in Nottinghamshire. We recruit Ambulance Care Assistants around the country based remotely where we have work. You will be based from home and work as a 2-person crew on shifts in your nearest area. We’re currently recruiting in Derbyshire, Lincolnshire, Nottinghamshire, Cambridgeshire, and Northamptonshire. first4care provides ad-hoc and contracted Patient Transport Services under contract to NHS trusts, clinical commissioning groups and other independent ambulance services.

About you

You will enjoy working from a hospital site local to you and cover a local area. You will enjoy our flexible working hours, with a range of available shifts. You will enjoy working as part of a two-person crew but part of a bigger family team.

You will use a specially designed ambulance with a tail-lift/ramp for wheelchairs, stretchers and carry chairs alike. Be physically fit.

Be responsible for looking after patients, many of whom will be in poor health. You will be patient, caring and calm. Interested in other people, be able to reassure people who may be nervous and deal with challenging behaviour. Be ‘people focused’ to make our patients feel comfortable and cared for.

Be a confident and competent driver. Have an ability to make sure patients are safe and comfortable during the journey and arrive on time for their appointment.

Training and development

You will receive all necessary training which will cover the essential skills such as:

· Moving and handling techniques

· First aid and life-saving skills in case there is a medical emergency.

· Basic patient skills

· Safe driving techniques

Training includes practical assessments and written exams. Once you have passed these tests, you'll work under the guidance of a trained supervisor before working unsupervised.

As your career progresses, you could become a team leader or supervisor and take charge of a team of assistants and drivers.

Often our Ambulance care assistants will go on to apply for other Ambulatory roles in a range of services. such as Urgent Care assistants, Emergency Care assistants, Technician, and paramedic apprenticeships. All have said that this role has given them a good understanding of Ambulance services and prepared them for their career journey.
