- Ensure that safety is given the highest priority at all times in meeting operational standards through inspection and audit, ensuring that fault reporting and follow-up actions are recorded. This includes carrying out regular safety inspections of the airfield, identifying hazards and recording and acting upon these necessary.
- Responsible for checking the serviceability of lighting systems both on and off the airfield and report any off-airfield hazards to aircraft such as cranes, or other obstructions. Exercise control over environmentally sensitive issues such as engine ground running, the application of de-icing media and the management of airside spillages.
- Carry out regular wildlife patrols and disperse if necessary and keep accurate logs. The applicant must participate in bird culls when necessary.
- Provide marshalling assistance and safety escorts to aircraft as required and assist with additional safety related functions relating to the safe operation of the airfield. Assist and escort emergency services and control authorities and provide support during accident and emergency situations.
- Manage and operate the Airport Operating System, and other operational systems using information obtained from ATC, airlines, handling agents, other business partners and external customers. Amend/reallocate aircraft parking stands as necessary on a real time basis responding to changing operational needs and priorities.
- Complete environmental, stand allocation and other associated plans/trackers to ensure the correct data is captured for billing and airline/handling agent performance.
- Monitor and manage the conduct and safety of all contractors and engineers working airside. Carry out site handover inspections and ensure that all relevant safety documentation and permits are in order.
- Ensure that all personnel working airside comply with statutory instructions and local airport notices, taking appropriate action when necessary to maintain high safety standards.
- Build close working relationships and lines of communication with internal and external customers and business partners to foster co-operation in all areas, particularly with regard to airfield safety.
- During winter operation conditions provide assistance to the ‘Snow Man’ and ‘Snow Co-ordinator’ as required in order to return the airfield as quickly as possible to a fully operational condition, making tactical decisions to carry out the de-icing/anti-icing operations in a timely manner.
- Investigate all incidents and accidents airside and complete the required documentation to capture all required information, including root cause recommendations if required.
- To be able to communicate effectively at all levels both orally and in writing.
- To be a highly motivated individual able to play an active role in the change management process and work effectively under pressure without direct supervision.
- A good standard of education, preferably educated to ‘A’ level standard.
- Minimum of 3 years extensive and demonstrable knowledge of airside activities.
- Previous safety experience, ideally with a working knowledge of Safety Management, Risk Assessments and Business Continuity Planning.
- Proven experience working in a customer focused role.
- A working knowledge of the statutory and airport operational documents with the ability to make decisions often under pressure and unassisted based on interpretation of relevant manuals.
- Category C driving licence would be preferred
