Operations Manager
The Operations Manager is a key role in operations with a purpose to work with the artificial intelligence-machine learning (AIML) group to support in driving forward key projects and initiatives. The AIML group is working in an exciting and exploratory space focusing on areas in which machine learning methods could improve R&D at GSK.
The Operations Manager will support the Head of AIML operations and the AIML Director as they work with the AIML leadership to do what it takes to mobilise R&D’s people, time, and resources for maximum patient impact. This role will be involved in looking for ways create solutions where there are gaps in processes, embed efficient ways of working to allow AIML project teams to focus on the highest value add activities.
This role will be a part of our global AIML team (based in London Kings Cross) will be a part of a team whose aim is to accelerate medicine development for patients.

In 2021 we delivered four major product approvals: Cabenuva for HIV, Jemperli for endometrial cancer, Xevudy for COVID-19 and Apretude, our new long-acting medicine for HIV prevention.

In this role you will (role/grade dependent):

Contributing to the day to day Operational support to AIML, which could include but not limited to:
- Planning leadership team meetings, including agendas, actions, key participants, and driving High Performing Teams behaviours,
- Locating gaps in processes, developing processes and process improvements,
- Facilitate financial processes,
- Contribute to the AIML culture and engagement plan,
- Support the communication and engagement plan activities for the department
- Perform ad-hoc analysis, develop strategic options, and provide recommendations to enable informed decision making
- Drive small business transformation projects that impact AIML
- Work with the AIML Head and Operations Director to drive development, interpretation and provision of key performance indicators and analyses. Develop and implement stakeholder engagement strategy to influence decision making and behaviour change to improve productivity across the portfolio.
- Understand and be able to influence the environment outside of the line organization to support achievement of its objectives (e.g. other R&D lines or other Global Support Functions).
- This role will require a high level of intellectual agility and adaptability, leading to an ability to undertake diverse packages of work in varied situations/environments. Undertake more sophisticated business benefit analyses including return-on investment, problem solving or strategic thinking integrating key information to ensure on-time delivery of project or business milestones
- This is a role which must be able to deal with high levels of complexity and ambiguity, as well as be able to effectively navigate through multiple stakeholders and their perspectives.
- Requires strong relationship building and influencing skills.
- This role requires the ability to think strategically about key issues affecting R&D and its organizational implications as well as being organizational savvy in dealing with senior leaders.
- Proactively and independently manage a high volume workload proactively to a consistently high standard, by setting priorities, objectives and target dates.

Basic Qualifications:
- Pharma, CRO and/or Academic Research Organisation experience and/or experience in AIML or software demonstrates capability to proactively identify and resolves issues with minimal oversight
- Results-orientation and drive to set and reach challenging goals; high standards for performance
- Demonstrated ability to structure and manage projects to deliver stated objectives coupled with a clear understanding of change management principles. Previous experience undertaking project management for strategic business projects and/or demonstrated ability to lead small projects of a strategic nature. Lead, manage and coordinate team towards effective and successful delivery
- Previous experience with sophisticated data analysis; ability to draw conclusions in absence of definitive quantitative evidence.
Preferred Qualifications:

- Actively listen, interpret and playback objectives, deliverables and points of view from Stakeholders
- Proactively brief, syndicate and address concerns of stakeholders towards broad buy-in
- Ability to define and articulate strategic intent, with a clear understanding of the difference between strategic and tactical issues.
- Experience in navigating decisions and/or execution through multiple parties in major, matrixed organizations
- Must be self-directed and highly motivated and understand where to apply their efforts to achieve the most significant business outcome
- Must be curious and able to engage at all levels within and external to the line to create a rich and alternative perspective to the teams that they support.
