Position Title: Agriculture Intern (Placement year)
Position Type: Temporary - Full-Time
Position Location: Scarborough
Grade: Grade 02
Requisition ID: 19802
This is a placement year opportunity for REPLACEMENT_STRING2024, and not a grad scheme. This is only suitable for students who are due to finish their second/penultimate year and seeking a placement year opportunity as part of a sandwich degree course!
For over 60 years we’ve been the number one branded player in the frozen potato market. When it comes to bringing the nation together at mealtimes with simple, delicious and great tasting food we’re kind of a big deal!
You won’t just find us in supermarkets though. As well as owning a household retail brand, our respected foodservice business works in close partnership with distributors, chefs and caterers across thousands of the country’s pubs, restaurants, hospitals and schools.
From our humble beginnings in the rural community of Florenceville, Canada, McCain Foods is now a global business! We have operations within six continents, with plant sites and offices across the world.
#TakeABite of life outside of your university studies.
We’re recruiting for an Agriculture Intern.
You’ll join a line of successful interns that have all been in the same shoes, who’ve spent 12 months of their time at University walking through the doors of our HQ to gain some valuable experience. Some of which have since returned to continue their careers with us.
You’ll join us in July 2023, and you’ll spend the next 12 months working alongside our Potato Supply, Regional Agriculture and Agronomy teams on projects and initiatives to drive efficiency throughout the business and maintain potato supply to all manufacturing sites.
You’ll get an insight into what life is like working for one of the largest frozen food companies in the world, and experience lots of different elements within agriculture.
Projects may include;
- Leading and managing events to enable knowledge transfer, celebrate success and to build our grower base
- Interactions with the Regional Agriculture team and our growers on farms and providing support as and when required.
- Providing proactive solutions to potato related operational issues to ensure continued manufacturing and minimising any disruption
- Investigating technology available in the market to improve efficiencies relating to our “potato passports” which ensure every load delivered to factory is signed by a grower and adheres to all food safety commitments
- Quickly identifying risks and devising timely solutions to keep the flow of potatoes from field to factory running smoothly.
As an intern, you’ll not only get hands on experience, but you’ll also experience development within a professional environment where you’ll work towards set objectives, with a clear development plan and regular one to one’s with your line managers. You’ll build a network both inside and outside of McCain as well as creating connections with other interns across the business.
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR…
Here at McCain we are go-getters. We are winners. And we work hard.
And that’s what we look for in our interns.
But you must also…
- Be currently studying a relevant degree in Agriculture, Supply Chain or Business Management.
- Full clean driving license.
- Have a passion and interest for food.
- Be seeking a 12 month placement year to support your degree studies (which will run from July to June)
- Must be available to start early July.
- And of course, a love of potatoes!
WHAT’S IN IT FOR YOU?
Although we do encourage you to taste the goods you’ll be pleased to know we don’t pay you in chips. For working hard, you’ll also get a great salary and some pretty good benefits including:
- An excellent pension where we will pay double what you do, up to a maximum of 12% of your pay
- Flexible holidays – where you can buy & sell up to 5 days holiday per year
- Optional health cash plan
- Cycle to work scheme
- ‘Chips In’ Volunteering Day Off - to make a positive impact to the competitiveness, resilience, and long-term development of McCain communities across the globe
- And of course, being part of a Global business there are great opportunities to shine/thrive should you wish to relocate in the future. We have an ambitious 5 year growth plan that presents development & progression opportunities for those who seek it out.
WHERE YOU’LL WORK…
Our Head Office is based in Scarborough, North Yorkshire.
We operate a Hybrid working approach, and your success will be measured by the objectives you deliver, and not where you’re based. So although we don’t dictate a certain number of days we’d like to see you, you'll be in the office, field, farm, or factories whenever it is required.
