SRUC is unique in Scotland and one of the largest organisations of its kind in Europe. The Rural Economy, Environment and Society (REES) Department is one of the largest groups of economists and social scientists working in the rural, agricultural and land based sectors in the UK.
SRUC wishes to recruit two Agricultural Consultants. The main purpose of these roles is to deliver SAC Consultancy Services to farmers and clients in the allocated geographical area.
SAC Consultants are the conduit for knowledge generated within SAC and SRUC to the agricultural industry. The role is primarily about the delivery of knowledge related services to the agricultural sector but also requires the skills and capability to collaborate with all parties acting within the agriculture and food production ecosystem.
Through knowledge transfer, advisory services, tools and collaboration SAC consultants assist and support their clients to meet their individual business objectives, as well as helping industry stakeholders, government agencies and private sector businesses to achieve greater success or to deliver on their organisation objectives.
In addition, SAC Consultants work collaboratively with their academic peers to strengthen the links between industry and academic interests to support the relevance of SRUC as a whole.
These roles are suited to individuals with experience of working in the agricultural sector with knowledge and skills in English grants and subsidy schemes and agricultural business management. Further skills and knowledge of arable, dairy, beef & sheep would be advantageous.
In this role you will:
- Support the provision of technical and financial consultancy services to farmers
and managers and other local rural business.
- Identify business opportunities for SAC services for clients in the rural community and to promote, provide and sell such services appropriately.
- Promote, market and sell SAC services which will be serviced by the consultant, other local staff and specialist colleagues.
- Maintain effective local liaison with staff of other organisation with rural interests, including banks, commercial companies, Local Enterprise companies, and NFU.
