Why this job matters
Within Digital, the COO (Chief Operating Officer) team plays a critical role in driving the Digital transformation: we set and implement the overall BT Digital strategy and plans and we are the engine room driving the outcomes required for our customers. We work across multiple customer units (e.g., Consumer, Enterprise, Global divisions) covering needed updates to products, customer journeys, platforms, 3rd parties, strategic partners, IT architecture and innovation.
Digital has a large number of interconnected initiatives that will deliver strategic outcomes for BT and its customers. These initiatives are in play across a number of different units within Digital, with links to every part of BT. In parallel, we are moving all of Digital into full-scale Agile ways of working. It’s a complex, interconnected show to keep on the road, and this job matters because you will be part of the team that makes sure that it does. You will work closely with delivery units and their teams, stakeholders, and senior management to ensure that Agile principles and practices are adopted and embraced throughout the organization. You’ll be working with our CFUs and CUs to integrate product and process changes with Digital’s plans. Equipped with this BT-wide understanding, you will be able to guide teams to make better decisions, and work directly with senior management teams across BT to ensure their support.
What you’ll be doing
- Help build macro delivery roadmap for Digital to support accelerated delivery
- Manage and drive adoption of JIRA and Confluence platforms identifying, developing and implementing capabilities and features that will enhance our ways of working
- Train and coach tribe and delivery teams to adopt JIRA, Confluence and other portfolio management tools
- Provide significant delivery experience utilising agile methods for major projects and portfolio transformation programmes
- Drive and support organisational change at team, programme, product and service levels
- Provide change management expertise across projects and programmes incorporating adaptive and hybrid ways of working to ensure upskilling can be maintained, sustained and retained
- Guide and support a cross-disciplined squad employing agile values, principles and practices to deliver value to our business across the delivery lifecycle
- Championing the COO team to adopt agile practices and collaborating with stakeholders and senior management to align Agile practices with business objectives
- Providing regular reporting and metrics on Agile at scale performance and progress
You'll have the following skills and experience
- Experience of designing and implementing Agile at scale frameworks.
- Prior knowledge/experience working within Agile delivery environments utilising Agile at scale frameworks
- Experience with agile delivery management and collaboration tools (e.g. JIRA, Confluence, Mural)
- Strong stakeholder management with excellent negotiation skills
- Financial awareness of delivering change in commercial environment
- Exceptional organisational and time management skills
- Social, engaging and naturally collaborative with the ability to be a servant leader, organising and motivating the squad without the use of authority
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills ensuring confidence in conflict resolution and the ability to tailor own style to the audience
- Knowledge of the Agile methodology and the benefits to Agile product delivery (Lean/Agile/SAFe/Scrum/Design Thinking/Systems Thinking)
- Be a change agent, supporting change initiative locally, adapting quickly and delivering change effectively
- Experience contributing to a high performing culture, empowering others through coaching and development
- Be an inspiring communicator, creating inspiring messages, considering different perspective and delivering simple communications
