What you will be doing

You will be on a development pathway to prepare you to be a Additive Manufacturing Design Engineer and can expect to be involved in the following:

1. The co-Design and Manufacture of an H2 Fuel Cell Manifold using Optimisation Driven Design methods, Design for Additive Manufacturing principles and state of the Additive Manufacturing machines.

2. An area of technology disruption in the AM Industry is understanding and controlling the energy behind the laser fusion process. As such a collaborative project across industry and academia has been launched to develop Modelling and Simulation methods to investigate the effect variation of melt pool parameters has on material properties, defects and surface finish.

3. Example of typical tools / technologies learned: Optimisation: ToffeeAM, Ntopology, Altair Optistrut; Design: CATIA, 3DX; AM Build File: Magics

4. You will have the opportunity to learn co-Design for Additive Manufacture via on the job training. Typically the E2E process covers the Optimised Design of Structural components & Systems Equipment, Creation of a Build File for manufacture on in-house machines to the Post - Processing of the parts.

5. There is also potential to work on projects targeting process improvement using Data Analytics and AI such as an ongoing project trending data from the builds in order to characterize defects and inclusions aimed at an alternative means of inspection.

At the end of the 2 year development programme you will be fully equipped to be a key player as an Additive Manufacturing Design Engineer .

What we look for

To be a successful applicant to the Airbus Global Graduate Programme, you will need to demonstrate you have:

  • A degree level or equivalent within a relevant field of study. Recently graduated or first professional experience in the field of Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering.

  • Strong verbal and written communication in our business language (English)

  • A desire to work in a collaborative team environment, focused on driving future innovation

  • The ability to be self aware and a wish to be in the driving seat of your development.

Salary: £31,000
