REQ ID: 102938
JOB TITLE: Ageing Modelling, Battery Cell & Pack
SALARY: Competitive
LOCATION: Gaydon
We’re re-examining our vehicles and what a vehicle means in the emerging world of automation, connectedness, electrification and the shared economy. New ideas, new technology, and new approaches to mobility are our business. Join a team of next generation thinkers.
The Opportunity
We are currently seeking a battery cell modelling engineer to support the development of models (cell ageing model, battery use cases and battery lifetime model suite) and maintain the model repositories. This position requires a strong analytical mindset with skills on numerical analysis, code development and optimisation.
The ideal candidate needs to be a quick learner, meticulous and flexible with a self-motivated attitude. A great opportunity to join the versatile, diversified yet well-balanced Cell Team who are making significant steps in the cell programme delivery, modelling and physical testing – and be a part of the modern luxury proud creators of Jaguar Land Rover.
Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities
- Develop new cell ageing models using data-driven / empirical / multi-physics approaches to predict the cell degradation behaviour accurately under given operating conditions i.e., ageing cycles or user case profiles.
- Formulate the design of experiments for acquiring required data and elaboration of the cell test data for the model build, verification, and validation.
- Support the Lead engineer in providing novel solutions to reduce the orders of the models so they are fast running while still accurate when integrating with various battery system-level models.
- Improving the modelling methodology to bring the next-generation ideas required with new cell chemistry, new strategies, or extreme user conditions by working closely with various advanced teams.
- Support regularly other modellers in the team to align the tasks and priorities.
- Control and maintain developed models within in-house model/data repositories and adequate documentation, follow all necessary team protocols while sharing them with external teams.
- Collaborate with various teams to develop and implement both offline and online battery ageing models and algorithms.
- Work and deliver multiple programmes under a fascinating new agile work environment.
- Review academic papers to help improve modelling techniques, share the knowledge (including your work) with other team members.
Knowledge, Skills, and Experience
Essential:
Advanced Matlab programming (object-oriented modelling) /Simulink modelling skills- Fundamental knowledge on Li-ion cell electrochemistry processes, and degradation mechanisms
- Experience in system level and/or reduced order modelling
- Experience in developing codes to handle large data sets and deriving mathematical first principles to model physical processes.
- Well organised, meticulous attention to detail, strong analytical ability to infer from large data sets.
- Education o BS/MS in EE, ME, Maths, Chemistry, Physics, Materials or equivalent degree or similar engineering or technical field
Desirable:
- Battery modelling using python programming, COMSOL or exposure to any similar tools ·
- Experience in Cell characterisation methods
- Various battery pack modelling techniques (lumped, cell discretisation, electro-thermal), state estimations for offline and online including but not limited to adaptive data-driven approaches, cloud-computing, IoT/API for real-time estimations.
- Understanding and knowledge of Agile methodologies
- Experience in model version control using repositories (SVN/GIT or similar)
