Our Belfast office is a successful and growing one thanks to a large and varied client base ranging from multinational listed businesses to start ups, owner managed to private equity / entrepreneurial venture backed covering various sectors.

As we seek to further grow the tax business in Belfast and build new contacts and engagements with businesses across the region, we are looking for tax professionals who excel at client relationships and who have the confidence and skills to win new work and clients. Business development skills, in terms of being able to go out and meet new contacts, understand their business needs and determine how we can add value to them by addressing those needs, is therefore a key requirement.


As a corporate tax professional working in EY’s Belfast office you’ll provide a full range of corporate tax services. You’ll be working alongside specialists on a day to day basis to broaden your experience of different corporate tax areas to help our clients through the challenges of planning, compliance, reporting obligations and maintaining effective relationships with the tax authorities. The varied work encompasses issues that include loss relief, reorganisations, acquisitions, disposals, refinancing, BEPS and international tax means ultimately this role will offer broad experience with significant exposure to senior stakeholders, responsibility in key decisions and a more varied portfolio to help you develop your career with EY.


Your key responsibilities


  • To contribute to the efficient and successful delivery of corporate tax compliance services to the client
  • Build and maintain tax relationships with clients and provide high levels of client service
  • Build relationships both within the firm and externally with clients, identifying opportunities and managing expectations
  • Assist in the successful delivery of tax services, ensuring technical excellence and practical/business driven approach
  • Responsible for day-to-day client liaison


Skills and attributes for success


To qualify for the role you must have


  • Experienced corporate tax practitioner with experience in UK taxation
  • Experience of working on corporate tax issues including preparation of tax computations for submission to HMRC, loss relief planning, application of interest rules restrictions and corporate and deferred tax accounting
  • Up to date knowledge of changes in the tax environment (BEPS, CBCR etc)
  • Client driven and strategically and commercially aware
  • Excellent communicator in a range of situations both written and oral.
  • Enthusiastic and flexible attitude to work
  • Strong and motivated team player
  • Coaching more junior staff
  • Any of the following preferred: ATT / ACA / CA / CTA (or breadth of knowledge equivalent to CTA)
  • Graduate/Graduate calibre or equivalent work experience


Ideally, you’ll also have

  • Experience across a broad range of sectors including owner managed business, private equity backed businesses and groups trading internationally
  • Experience in the use of technology to support the tax compliance process
