Reporting to the Vice President for Communications and Marketing, the Communications Associate will collaborate within the Communications and Marketing team to execute communication output that highlights the Foundation's community impact. The Communications Associate role supports integrated marketing and communications efforts by coordinating and executing digital design content for print and digital publications, managing social media profiles, and providing operational and administrative support to the department.


Essential Duties &

Responsibilities

  • Design and create a range of content for print and digital publications including graphics for web, email blasts, social media posts, slide presentations, brochures, and marketing materials.
  • Manage the Foundation’s social media content calendar, creating schedules and developing timelines across multiple platforms.
  • Collaborate across departments to support print, electronic and social media messaging and materials.
  • Collaborate with members of the Communications and Marketing team to develop, maintain, and strengthen the Foundation’s communications channels, brand identity, voice, and storytelling.
  • Proofread and update written material for communications channels-including social media platforms, email newsletters, intranet, external websites and more.
  • Support Foundation events, including sending invitations and related duties.
  • Manage relationships with external vendors (including photographers, videographers, and other partners).
  • Support, measure, and track community engagement across social and email channels.
  • Attend associated events for communications support.
  • Provide general administrative support for the department including handling of general inquiries, paying invoices, managing subscriptions, and maintaining files.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Competencies and Attributes

  • Knowledge of graphic design platforms (Adobe Creative Suite including Lightroom and Canva, preferred.)
  • Experience with social media platforms such as Instagram, LinkedIn, Facebook, and Twitter.
  • Proficient writing, editing and proofreading skills (social media copy, blog writing, copy-editing).
  • Effective organizational and time management skills.
  • Experience working with email platforms such as Constant Contact, and/or website design management.
  • Knowledge of website content management systems (WordPress and concrete5, preferred.)
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills with ability to build strong relationships.
  • Motivated self-starter with demonstrated good judgement, critical thinking, flexibility, resourcefulness, and problem-solving abilities.

Education and Experience

Degree requirement can be substituted with equivalent practical experience.


  • Bachelor’s Degree in marketing, communications, or other relevant area or equivalent work experience.
  • Two or more years of experience in digital design and social media.

Preferred

  • Experience working with nonprofits, fundraising, or community organizations.
  • Bilingual in Spanish, a plus.

Location:

Hartford, CT; Work assignment includes in-office work, remote work and occasional travel to events throughout the Greater Hartford Region.
