Academic Support & Engagement provides tailored, comprehensive supports within inclusive spaces in which students become critically-engaged, self-determined learners. Responsibilities
The Writing Support Centre offers comprehensive support to members of the Western University community. Programming includes outreach and Writing in the Disciplines seminars, online advising sessions and writing resources, summer transition clinics, writers’ retreats, a yearly graduate writing conference, and one-to-one writing counselling. Successful applicants will be responsible for one-to-one writing advising duties. The Writing Support Centre seeks conscientious, knowledgeable staff members who exhibit patience and excellent communication skills.
Requirements:
- A minimum of a master’s degree
- Experience working in a university writing centre
- Excellent writing skills
- Rhetoric and composition knowledge
- Excellent overall communication skills
- Experience presenting
- Experience working with diverse groups
Preferred requirements:
Applicants who have the following will be considered first:
- Two years university teaching experience
Responsibilities:
- Counsel undergraduate, graduate, and postdoctoral scholar writers regardless of their discipline
- Help students with their presentation skills, including slide deck design
- Respond to student online paper submissions
- Teach Writing in the Disciplines workshops when necessary
- Help with general upkeep of the Writing Support Centre
- Learn about other Western Student Experience programming
