Apprenticeships are available for anyone over 16 years of age. They offer you the opportunity to earn a wage and work full time in your chosen trade area. This means you develop your skills in a real working environment from day one and are able put the skills you learn at college, directly into practice at work.

We have exciting opportunities for enthusiastic people to join our Engineering Division working on Strategic Projects. You will be based at Sellafield where you will learn from the industry’s best, working primarily on regulated projects; as part of your training and development you well also be given the opportunity to gain experience on everything from office; hospitals to universities; manufacturing facilities and the rail network. No two projects are ever the same and this is an industry that continually adapts and embraces new technologies.
As a site-based apprentice you will:
- Train at one of the top performing colleges or training providers in the country
- Learn about our award-winning approach to working safely
- Work indoors, outdoors and occasionally at height
- Be prepared for early starts and travel away from home when necessary
- Develop great working relationships with some of the industry’s most talented people
- Have a strong support network giving you the chance to build your confidence and skills
- Install electrical services (e.g., pre-cast cast resin busbar, wiring systems, complex lighting control systems, small power wiring for sockets etc & emergency lighting systems)
- Read and understand engineering drawings including wiring and circuit diagrams
- Inspect and test electrical installations
- Diagnose and rectify faults on a range of circuits and equipment
- Use small hand tools such as hammers, saws, screwdrivers etc.
- Operate electrical tools such as chop saws, combi drills, impact drivers etc.
- Install electrical containment systems (e.g., trunking, basket, ladder rack & conduit) needed for the wiring of cables

Grade C/4 or above in GCSE (or equivalent) English Language, Maths and a science-based subject, plus 2 other subjects at grade C/4 or above.
