Surrey County Council
Full Time Reigate, England 13949 GBP ANNUAL Today
Job description

Job Introduction

The starting salary for this position is 13,948.50 per annum based on an 18 hour working week, pro-rata to £27,897.

We are excited to be hiring a new Occupational Therapy Assistant (OTA) to join our fantastic Reigate and Banstead Locality team. The team is based in the beautiful Woodhatch Place in Reigate.

About us

As one of the busiest teams in Surrey, the Reigate and Banstead Locality Team has a countywide reputation for their innovative approach to service provision. By thinking outside the box the team actively seek to ‘Be the change you wish to see in the World’. This approach resulted in the development and implementation of the ‘5 Steps Programme’ which was published twice in the national OT News Magazine (May 2020, May 2021). The team’s hard work, creativity and courage resulted in the OT Team being shortlisted for the 2021 LGC Awards.

With the aim to manage the constantly increasing demand on services, the team is not afraid to try new ideas. Their goal is to maintain their achievement of having no client waiting list, whilst continuing to provide an excellent service. The two recently implemented SWOT (Smart Working OT) Service and the Duty Power Hour Approach testify to this.

In addition to innovation, the team also has a reputation for their investment in new staff, students, apprentices and colleagues from other services. You will be warmly welcomed, supported to become the best you can be and encouraged to bring your voice and skills to benefit peers, clients and the overall service.

About the role

Within the OTA role, you will have direct contact with the public. You may join the OT Team in the Duty Power Hour Sessions when you will be the first point of contact, gathering initial information and identifying the need for further assessment, as well as signposting people to other services.

You will become accustomed to service provision on the phone as well as visiting clients in their own home or care setting. You may be trained to manage the SWOT service and thereby provide a fast and efficient service to the clients at the point of contact.

As an OTA you will assess for, and recommend, basic daily living equipment to improve or maintain client’s function, demonstrating the safe use of this equipment and manual handling to individuals and carers. You will also consider major adaptations within the client’s home when basic equipment does not meet the client’s needs.

You will receive training and support, as well as regular professional supervision, to ensure your transition into the team. By building on the foundation of your experience, and by directing your knowledge and skills within OTA context, the team will support you to become confident and competent to fulfil the requirements of the role.

In your application, we would love to hear about your:

  • Experience and impact of direct work with the public as part of paid or voluntary work
  • Motivation for applying for an OTA role in the Adult Social Care setting
  • Transferrable skills which will make you successful and excel in the OTA role
  • Values and work ethics which underpins your approach to work

Previous experience of assessing people would be helpful but not essential.

At Surrey, our values and behaviours are just as important as our skills and abilities. They shape who we are as an organisation. Find out more about the values we follow.
