These posts (five in total) will be based at Ysbyty Gwynedd, Bangor in North Wales, working for the brand-new Adult Critical Care Transfer Service (ACCTS) for 50%, and the other 50% in anaesthesia or critical care. The posts are suitable for those wishing to gain further experience in critical care transfer and retrieval or those who simply want to take some time out to experience living and working in a rural DGH (for example post-FRCA, post-CCT, or post core training in order to complete stage 1 training or those needing to pass the primary FRCA). Minimum requirements are completion of core training in ACCS, intensive care or anaesthesia and have a minimum of 18 months experience in anaesthesia. The post is designed to provide equivalent experience to a Deanery post. All doctors will be entitled to the same teaching and training opportunities as a deanery trainee.

ACCTS. The transfer cover will be 24/7. Shifts will be from 18:00 to 18:00, 1 in 6 with prospective cover - resident during the daytime and non-resident on-call out of hours. Shifts will start in the evening as non-resident on-call. The frequency of out-of-hours calls is expected to be low. An on-call room is provided at YG for applicants who will not be living within 30 minutes of the base. During the day the transfer doctor will be primarily based at the ACCTS base in Bangor / supernumerary on the intensive care unit. ACCTS work under the governance of and in partnership with EMRTS Cymru.

Anaesthesia & Critical Care. The exact breakdown will be negotiable and depend on candidates needs and previous experience as well as departmental needs. This will also include a pro-rata (50%) on-call commitment in either critical care or anaesthesia.

Ysbyty Gwynedd is part of the Welsh Critical Care Network and is a Trauma Unit in the North Wales and North West Midlands Trauma Network feeding in to the major trauma centre in Stoke. Our remote location close to the mountains offers unique challenges and opportunities for trauma and transfer medicine. We have developed close relations with EMRTS Cymru, the Welsh Ambulance Service. the local HM Coastguard search and rescue and mountain rescue services.
