Tamar Valley Health are a well-organised, innovative and high achieving GMS practice with just over 16,900 patients, 7 GP and Pharmacist partners and a wider practice team who actively embraces change to deliver the best care we can to patients.
We have an exciting and rare opportunity for an experienced Medical Secretary & Data Administrator to work at our two site GP Practice.
Previous experience of working in a GP practice would be highly desirable and/ or previous data entry administration/ secretarial experience is essential.
This is a permanent full time position, 5 days per week (37.5 hours, 7.5 hours per day) to be worked between the hours of 8am to 8pm with some occasional weekend working where necessary.
Five weeks annual leave plus bank holidays (pro-rata), generous occupational pension scheme.
This role will be based in Gunnislake but the applicant will need a valid driving licence and transport to be able to visit our storage facilities to collect patient records.
Essential skills & experience:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Previous office based or administrative role(s) is essential
- Good problem solving skills
- Be able to work as part of a team
- Be able to adhere to protocols and procedures
Desirable skills & experience:
- Recent experience in a GP Practice
- Experience in read coding and summarising
- Experience of SystmOne
Job summary:
To summarise all paper medical records, to include logging health promotion data such as immunisations, and enter details of significant illnesses and treatments. Completion of patient referrals, clinic letters and medical report creation. Because of the nature of the role applicants must be able to demonstrate excellent computer skills and have the ability to touch type. Previous experience of a similar role within healthcare will be advantageous.
Primary Duties and Areas of Responsibility:
- Summarising
- Medical referrals and letters
- Typing medical reports (copy typing and audio typing)
- Referral rejections and chasing secondary care appointments
- Coding
- Enhanced services
- Scanning
- Deductions
- Checking in new notes
- Checking emergency hospital admissions on a daily basis and forwarding to GPs and other clinicians
- General practice and patient administration
The duties of this post are wide ranging and will require the post holder to be flexible in adapting to changing circumstances and full training will be provided to the successful candidate with potential to develop skills.
