In May 2023 Ofsted Inspectors praised West Sussex County Council’s Children’s Services for its ‘relentless approach to improving practice,’ giving the service an overall rating of ‘requires improvement’, with ‘good’ judgements for children in care and leadership and management. The judgements on children needing help and protection and children leaving care are they ‘require improvement to be good’.
Inspectors recognised the ‘strong, determined and cohesive leadership team’ who have made significant improvements since 2019 and their commitment and focus to make further improvements.
About The Job
Salary: £22,369 to £22,777 (per annum)
Working Pattern: Full Time (37 hours, however part time hours will be considered)
Contract Length: Permanent
Location: Worthing
You will deliver a customer focused and efficient administrative and data support service, contributing to the directorate objectives by supporting the teams within the Children’s Commissioning Service.
You will do this through working on varied administrative tasks which will include maintaining the service database, responding to customer enquiries through a variety of mediums, preparing performance data and reporting, financial processing, and other related tasks. You may be asked to work at a designated office or more flexibly across WSCC office hubs, dependent on service needs.
Experience and Skills
Key Skills:
- Good verbal communication skills for answering telephone queries effectively and communicating with staff and customers.
- Clear and effective written communication skills to process data and financial information, write non-standard correspondence and respond to emails appropriately.
- Good numeracy skills to work with figures and data to make sound and accurate financial calculations and data collection, working methodically.
- Sound and accurate overall IT and keyboard skills including Word and Excel (or equivalent) for daily office duties such as using e-mail, processing documents or updating spreadsheets.
- Good analytical and problem-solving skills to analyse specialist information and draw practical conclusions and appropriate actions with an understanding of relevant policies and procedures. For example, For example, to process purchase orders and good receipting, complete service specific reports and support teams with administration and maintenance of key service data.
- Ability to embrace change and adapt to changing situations and new ways of working positively and effectively. Including the ability to learn new systems and processes.
Qualifications and/or experience:
- 4 GCSEs with A-C / 4-9 passes including Maths and English, or equivalent qualification or experience demonstrating that level of numeracy and literacy.
- Experience of working in an office environment.
- Relevant technical knowledge of procedures and practices associated with operating an administrative service.
- Sound and accurate overall IT knowledge and experience in using Microsoft Office.
- Experience working with care record management and financial systems - Desirable
- Knowledge and awareness of the processes and systems associated with working within the service specialisms to maintain client records (e.g. SAP, MIS and Mosaic) - Desirable
