Activities at the Carnegie Club

Set in 8,000 acres of Highland landscape, the Skibo estate stretches from the shore of the Dornoch Firth, through links land, parkland, lochs and forest, to the grouse moor to the north.

We make the most of our incredible environment to provide our members and guests with a wide range of fun and exciting sports and activities.

From clay pigeon shooting to archery, axe throwing to ATVs, fishing to cycling, cold water swimming to Highland games, paddle boarding to rock climbing and much, much more, the activities team leads the delivery of pursuits for all ages and abilities.

About the role

  • Leading our Activities team, you're an enthusiastic individual who is well qualified to manage our current operation, whilst developing the next exciting chapter of the Club's outdoor adventure offering, which will be centred around our new Activities Clubhouse.
  • As a key member of the delivery team of this new facility, you'll bring your ideas and imagination to help us create an exciting selection of activities for all ages, utilising the fantastic array of forests, lochs, beaches and hills to their full advantage.
  • You're keenly collaborative, and will work with other department heads to ensure this new facility becomes the beating heart of our field sports offering.
  • You'll be an experienced and qualified instructor who is able to deliver our core programme of activities safely, without compromising the fun and enjoyment of our guests and members.
  • This is a fantastic chance to share your love of sports and the great outdoors, to discover new interests and to learn new skills.
  • Our recruitment process works both ways; it’s also about candidates finding out more about us and considering whether Skibo is somewhere they would like to work.
  • Flexibility and work-life balance are important considerations, as this will be a full-on, sometimes tiring role, with a high level of responsibility.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

  • You'll manage the provision of a variety of indoor and outdoor activities for our members and guests.
  • You'll have responsible for fulfilling all aspects of the Club’s activity programme and to support the Head of Activities and Wellbeing in the sourcing and introduction of new programmes and events as required.
  • You'll oversee recruiting, training and supervising of the Activities team to meet the needs of an ever-expanding remit.
  • You'll ensure a robust system of risk assessments, operational procedures and health and safety policies across all areas of the department.

Your skills

  • You're enthusiastic, personable, and love interacting with people of ages.
  • You've an understanding of different people's skills and capabilities; you might be helping people overcome their fears in the morning, guiding them to learn new skills in the afternoon, and then singing around the camp fire in the evening.
  • You love being active and out in the fresh air, and have a passion for sport and leisure – this is an active role so you’ll need to be physically fit.
  • You're dependable and extremely well organised, with the ability to prioritise tasks and juggle roles.
  • You're motivational, with good management skills – approachable and creative!
  • You've strong business knowledge and ideally have some project management experience.
  • You've a commitment to delivering exceptional customer service.

"Skibo is a great and exciting place to work and, in my opinion, working in the Activities department is one of the most exciting roles. One day you will be coaching on the clay range and the next you might be exploring hidden corners of the estate on the ATVs."

Michael Gallon, Sporting Activities Manager since 1997
