Introduction to York St John University

Situated in the heart of the historic city of York, and with the addition of our London Campus, York St John University has a long and proud tradition as a distinguished higher education provider.

Our success is founded on the quality of academic teaching and research, our thriving campus environments, our professional and pastoral support, and our values of an inclusive, innovative and ambitious community with a strong sense of belonging.

The Team

Library and Learning Services supports learning and teaching across the University through the development and maintenance of the University’s library collections, and through engagement with students to develop their academic and digital skills. The service also supports the University’s research activity through provision of the University’s research output and research data repositories. Library and Learning Services embeds the University's social justice approach through our work within the anti-racist and decolonial practice group, LGBTQ+ networks, our Accessibility Support Service, and the Library's IAMplify initiative.

The Role

Working with others in the Scholarly Communications, Content and Discovery team, your focus will be to assist with the day-to-day coordination and operation of library acquisition and cataloguing processes in line with collection development policies. You will play a key role in assisting the Senior Acquisitions and Metadata Librarian, and helping to ensure that services delivered are flexible, user-focused, and at the leading edge of best practice within the profession. You will assist the team in ensuring that resources are discoverable and available to our users as quickly as possible.

We are seeking applications from a broad range of candidates to this post, including applicants or those considering an application to a postgraduate qualification in Information and Library Management. Essential skills include excellent IT skills, a self-motivated and collaborative approach, working with accuracy and detail (e.g when cataloguing), and the ability to provide an excellent customer focussed service.

Additional Information

The role is an on-campus role at the university's York campus. It is 0.5 FTE (18.5 hours per week). The working pattern will be agreed with the successful candidate.
