Duties

If selected for this position, you will join a well-respected team that is responsible for accounting and budget work in support of the United States Attorney's Office, Eastern District of Louisiana. Typical work assignments will include:

  • Reviewing, examining, and processing bills for accuracy and payment;
  • Entering data into an automated accounting system, correcting invalid/incorrect entries, and preparing trial balances to check the status of accounts;
  • Validating, monitoring, controlling, and maintaining accounting transactions and accounting records for multiple accounts;
  • Inputting data and issuing checks to vendors;
  • Preparing travel expenses and providing assistance to employees with the Departments automated travel management system (e.g.,E2 Solutions) by booking travel, generating travel authorizations, and preparing travel vouchers.
  • Reviews submitted travel vouchers and processes payments in accordance with the Federal Travel Regulation and Department travel policy.
  • Creating and updating spreadsheets to enter, revise, sort, calculate, and retrieve data.
Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.

Qualifications

GS:7: To be qualified at the GS-7 level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-6 level.

Specialized experience is defined as reviewing and processing payments; entering data into an automated accounting system; reconciling and closing accounts; preparing financial reports; and preparing travel expenses and payments.

GS-8: To be qualified at the GS-8 level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-7 level.

Specialized experience is defined as verifying availability of funds; examining accounts and tracing transactions to identify discrepancies; taking corrective action on accounts to resolve discrepancies; providing information on budget policy and procedure to employees; and reconstructing payment history to determine proper payment.

To be qualified, you must type at least 40 words per minute based on a 5 minute sample with three or fewer errors. (A typing test may later be required.)

Interagency Career Transition Assistance Plan (ICTAP)- The ICTAP provides eligible displaced Federal competitive service employees with selection priority over other candidates for competitive service vacancies.
