Position Summary:
The Accounting Manager will be a central member of the finance team, reporting to the Controller, Pioneering Medicines. They will be an instrumental player and assist with companywide financial reports, cash flow management and consolidated reporting.
Key Responsibilities:
- Responsible for month- and quarter-end close for entities in the Pioneering Medicines organization ensuring compliance with US GAAP including preparation of traditional journal entries and account reconciliations relating to cash, prepaids, fixed assets, accruals, debt and equity.
- Manage ASC 842 lease accounting process.
- Monitor, track and record capital project expenditures.
- Develop and manage on-going financial reporting standards and close processes to align the business and implement regular cadence of monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting requirements to various stakeholders.
- Manage and coordinate compliance related activities with external consultants (e.g. tax compliance etc.) across multiple portfolio companies.
- Liaise with business operating unit to ensure purchasing is efficient and within guidelines.
- Manage organizational cash flow, budgeting, forecasting and reporting for Pioneering Medicines portfolio of companies.
- Support proper accounting treatment for new and complex business transactions such as those involving mergers & acquisitions and collaboration agreements.
- Provide support for annual financial statement audits and periodic reviews.
- Assist with specific projects and initiatives unique to a fast-growing biotechnology start-up.
- Ability to support multiple portfolio of companies, including preparation and management of research and development budgets.
- Provide Ad-Hoc reporting and analysis.
Minimum Qualifications:
- 8+ years of financial and accounting experience. Life sciences / biotechnology industry preferred.
- BS/BA in accounting or finance; MBA preferred.
- CPA Preferred.
- Strong business acumen; proven ability to effectively scrutinize and challenge assumptions and interpret the strategy and priorities of the organization in financial terms.
- Excellent project management / leadership skills with demonstrated track record and ability to engage teams to work together towards common deadlines.
- Strong presentation skills to succinctly and effectively deliver recommendations to senior leaders; frames complex concepts.
- Flexibility and ability to adapt to changing conditions.
- Exceptional attitude, attention to detail and ability to motivate teams to do the same.
- Experience in developing and managing budgets, including research collaboration budgets.
- Ability to work collaboratively with cross functional team members and with external partners.
- Works within and meets all deadlines while executing on multiple deliverables.
- Experience with NetSuite and Prendio a plus.
- Flexible, personable team-player, comfortable in a fast-paced, small company environment.
- Proven ability to set and meet ambitious deadlines, handle numerous multifaceted financial matters and see projects through to conclusion.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with both scientists and management.
- Capacity to distill complexity and to communicate decisively with sound judgment.
