What will you do at Ciena?
This is a broad international statutory compliance role within the EMEA Statutory Compliance team based in the UK. The purpose of the role is to prepare and support the timely and accurate statutory compliance reporting (Statutory Accounts, Statutory Audit and Tax Returns) for all business units within the EMEA region. The role will report into the EMEA Compliance Manager with the primary focus on delivery of all compliance matters specific to the EMEA region within the prescribed statutory deadlines.
Responsibilities
- Prepare the Compliance annual timetable for Compliance reporting across the EMEA Region
- Support the Compliance Manager with the statutory audits for all countries across the EMEA region, primarily responsible for collating audit deliverables.
- Preparation of Extended Trial Balance (ETB) for each country in the EMEA Region for review and approval by Manager before sending to local Provider
- Preparation of Financial Statements with the in-house software for external providers’ review and approval
- Preparation of tax calculations and tax returns with the in-house software for external providers’ review and approval
- Work with external providers regarding compliance matters, providing response to queries raised.
- Work with external providers on addressing questions raised from first review of draft stats and tax returns with ETB
- Work with US Tax team on getting final approval of the annual Statutory accounts and Tax returns
- Promote and maintain strong control environment (i.e. SOX, process documentation)
- Suggest process improvements and actively participate in ad-hoc projects
- Support Compliance Manager to resolve issues identified from monthly book-keeping pack reconciliations and statutory audit findings to ensure financial integrity of EMEA region books
General Activities
The role will report into the EMEA Compliance Manager with the primary focus on delivery of all compliance matters specific to the EMEA region within the prescribed statutory deadlines.
Experience
- Degree and/or Master’s Degree
- CIMA/ACCA/ACA finalist or newly qualified
- Big 4 audit experiences with International work experience would be an advantage
- Minimum of 5years’ experience in Finance and Accounting
- An understanding of the wider principles of Statutory Reporting, Corporate Tax, Transfer Pricing, Direct and Indirect Taxes
- Knowledge of UK GAAP and US GAAP
- Ability to work with outsourced providers to ensure accuracy and integrity of reporting entities across EMEA.
- Experience of using Oracle and Thompson Reuters Oneource platform would be beneficial but not essential as training will be provided
- Numeracy, accuracy, analytical, attention to detail and displays initiative in solving problems
- Relish change and implementing process and efficiency improvements
- Result focused, tenacious and deadline driven
- Ability to work with dispersed, multicultural and multifunctional teams
- Excellent communication skills and organizational skills, high sense of initiative and urgency
- Proficient with Microsoft Office
