SERVICE CHARGE ACCOUNTANT
ABOUT THE ROLE
To be responsible for reconciling a portfolio of property service charge year ends in line with the RICS Service Charge Code of Practice and dealing with property transitions in/out of the firm

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILTIES
- Reconcile expenditure reports back to the Cash Book
- Audit the annual expenditure listings to identify possible corrections to coding errors within cost centres. Liaise with the Property Manager for approval before processing journals
- Check invoice descriptions to actual paid invoices and where these are not clear make amendments where applicable
- Analyse the following year expenditure listing to identify possible accruals and liaise with Property Managers for approval before processing journals
- Analyse current year expenditure listing to identify possible prepayments and liaise with Property Managers for approval before processing journals
- Audit the income for the year ensuring that tenants have been charged correctly and liaise with the Property Manager and Client Accountants on any changes to be made
- Confirm with the Property Manager on tenant apportionment percentages and make changes to the database where applicable
- Prepare spreadsheets or system generated reports that matches the income against expenditure to create a Balancing Charge Report
- To raise the Balancing Charges in line with the Balancing Charge Report
- Create a Service Charge pack and send to Property Manager for distribution to tenants
- Create a balance sheet at year end to identify and report on Profit, Loss and Client Liability position
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- Studying towards and Accounting Qualification is preferred (AAT or ACCA)
- A-C in Maths and English G.C.S.E. (or equivalent( is preferred
- Organised and have attention to detail
- Good numeracy skills
- IT and software skills, particularly Microsoft Outlook and Microsoft Excel
- Ability to work under pressure and to adhere to deadlines
- Good communication skills, written and verbal
