POSITION TITLE: Accountant

SUPERVISOR: Senior Director, Finance & Quality Assurance

Position Summary:

The Accountant reports directly to the Senior Director, Finance & Quality Assurance, and is a key member of the accounting team. The Accountant is responsible for preparing all program expense reporting, including preparing, recording and reviewing accounting transactions, vendor invoices and monthly credit card and bank reconciliations.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

Daily tasks:

· Prepares and/or reviews per diem cost sheets and expense reports for program directors and program leaders, in accordance with Treasury Board Travel Directive and Toronto Centre Travel Policy for accuracy and eligibility. Follows up on any missing information such as receipts.

· Reviews invoices and expense reports and ensures they are coded to correct GL accounts and grants in accordance with Toronto Centre Policies and grant guidelines.

· Files supplier/vendor invoices, expense reports and contracts.

Month-end procedures:

· Prepares bank account reconciliations and follows up on any unreconciled or uncleared transactions.

· Prepares credit cards reconciliations. Reviews and enters credit card entries into accounting system. Follows up with program staff on any pending invoices/receipts and/or description of the transactions.

· Prepares cash investment summary.

Other:

· Assist with year-end external audit and periodic audits by the CRA and funders.

· Contributes to a positive and robust team effort.

· Complies with all TC policies, procedures and guidelines.

· Performs other duties as requested.

Qualifications:

· One to three years of relevant work experience.

· Strong knowledge and understanding of accounting principles.

· Post-secondary diploma or degree in accounting.

· Experience with a not-for-profit organization is an asset.

· Previous experience with expense reporting, familiarity with grant accounting and Treasury Board Travel Directive is an asset

· CPA student preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

· Experience using accounting software such as QuickBooks.

· Proficiency in Excel and ability to prepare reports using formulas, formatting, etc.

· Ability to multi-task, manage priorities and meet strict deadlines.

· Sound time management skills.

· Good written and verbal communication skills.

· Good analytical ability.

· Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

· Detailed oriented with attention to accuracy.

· Must be eligible to work in Canada.

· TC is a dynamic and fast paced environment. Some flexibility is required.

REMOTE WORK:

TC is currently working on a hybrid model. Employees are required to be in the office three days per week and as requested. This is subject to change, and you may be required to come into the office with greater frequency. Any changes to this remote working model will be at the sole discretion of TC.
