As a Junior Audit Associate, you will exercise the knowledge of accounting principles you have gathered through your education/course work and apply that knowledge to real tasks and client engagements. You will work in tax and assurance and be introduced to a wide variety of industries and areas of practice to gain a full understanding of all aspects of the public accounting professional. You will work in a team and be mentored by a Manager or Senior Manager. This is a hybrid role.
Primary Responsibilities and Duties
- Serve as a member of an audit team for audits of owner-managed businesses, including auditing sections such as cash, accounts receivable, inventory, fixed assets, etc. in accordance with industry standards.
- Prepare of Notice to Reader engagements, which includes preparing working paper files and corporate income tax returns in adherence with the firm’s formal policies and procedures
- Prepare personal tax returns, trust returns, T4s, T5s
- Communicate professionally with clients
- Manage competing deadlines for multiple partners and managers while providing quality service to clients
- Regularly communicate with managers on status of files
- Proactively use resources to problem solve prior to escalating questions to manager
- Assess file workload and communicate budget updates to manager
- Ensure time worked on each file is accurately recorded in practice management system
- Commit to achievement of CPA designation
- Adhere to the firm's processes, all company policies, and the CPA Code of Professional Conduct.
- Accept constructive performance feedback and develop strategies for improvement
- Achievement of competencies for your level
- University graduate pursuing CPA designation
- Non co-op stream students OR completed 3 or 4 co-op terms (depending on University) or non co-op stream
- Strong client service and communication skills, both written and verbal
- Good attention to detail
- Self motivated, results driven
- Willingness to be coached and mentored
- Experience using CaseWare and TaxPrep software
- Experience using QuickBooks or Simply Accounting
- Knowledge of Accounting Standards for private enterprises
- Experience using Excel
- Demonstrate ability to use Document Management Tools
- Has transportation available as some travel may be required.
- Sits at a desk for prolonged periods and works on a computer.
- Works effectively within an open-concept environment with distractions (phones, conversations etc.).
- Is able to deal with working in a high-stress environment with competing priorities, demanding deadlines, and interruptions.
- Can accommodate remote work if required.
- May work additional hours beyond the standard as required during late February, March, and April to assist/meet the firm’s objectives and responsibilities to provide client service.
