Who You Are
At SafeStart, the Accounting Assistant helps ensure that the full cycle of financial transactions is completed. We’re currently seeking a detail-oriented professional to fulfill this role. The best fit is someone with a solid understanding of basic bookkeeping and accounting principles, including a demonstrated knowledge of compliance issues around financial processes (i.e., taxes, etc.). They will bring strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills to the role. With a knack for numbers, our Accounting Assistant will be counted on to ensure day-to-day financial transactions are completed accurately and on time.
The Accounting Assistant is responsible to conduct a wide range of financial transactions in an accurate, efficient, and timely manner.
The successful candidate may also want to invest in a cape since we measure our success by the number of lives saved—it’s very empowering.
A Day in the Life of an Accounting Assistant
· Provide accounting and clerical support to the accounting department
· Complete payments by receiving, reviewing, coding, processing, verifying, and reconciling invoices and statements
· Prepares, posts, verifies, and records customer payments and transactions related to accounts receivable
· Remind customers about upcoming payments or past-due accounts
· Perform data entry into accounting software and spreadsheets; Generate reports
· General office administration duties
Need to Haves
· Accounting, finance, or related post-secondary diploma
· Intermediate understanding of expense accounts, cost centres, and tax compliance
· Ability to multitask and manage time wisely
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills
· Fast typing, with an eye for accuracy
· Proficient in Microsoft Office, spreadsheets, and online forms
· Ability to maintain confidential information
Nice to Haves
· Experience refining internal processes and filing systems
· Experience with Sage 300

· The successful candidate must live close enough to the office to be present for onboarding, in-person meetings or direct support requests
· Flexible working hours; remote work available with Tuesday & Thursday in-office days
