We are looking for an experienced Accountant to join the Budgeting and Accounting Team here at Norfolk County Council, and play a key role in helping to deliver a first class budgeting and accounting service across the organisation.
Norfolk County Council are the main local authority for Norfolk providing services countywide to Norfolk residents. We take a lead in critical policy areas, and we work in partnership with local businesses, voluntary organisations and other local authorities in order to provide the people of Norfolk with excellent services.
Our Budgeting and Accounting Team are a critical part of our organisation, providing support across the breadth of our services to ensure that we’re accountable as a council, and that taxpayers are receiving the best possible value for money. Working in a large and complex environment currently going through a significant period of transformational change, you’ll be part of a talented, proactive team that makes a real difference and is able to support the continual evolution and long-term objectives of the council.
The role is a fixed-term contract to the end of April 2024, while the post-holder is on secondment to another role within the organisation and is part-time for 3 days a week (0.6 Full Time Equivalent).
The core focus of the role is to work closely with our services to support day to day budgeting and accounting requirements, as well as working on a range of transformational change projects. As a local authority, we are accountable to our tax-payers and it’s critical that we are able to maintain a high standard of professional accounting, and that our finances and budgets are transparent and accurate. You could be working closely with any of our services, but it’s anticipated that initially this role will support Adult Social Care.
To be considered for the role, you’ll need a proven background working as an Accountant or similar working as part of a finance team, and you’ll be qualified at CCAB level. You’ll be competent providing both management and financial accounting functions, you’ll be comfortable analysing complex financial and non-financial data, and you’ll have experience using your analysis to support and influence decisions. You’ll also be keen to contribute towards the continual improvement and evolution of the finance function, and you’ll be comfortable managing a small team.
We know we’re asking for a lot, but in return we think we have a lot to offer. There’s the role itself, where you’ll be working as part of a critical team and playing a key role in supporting the work and ambitions of Norfolk County Council. Then there’s our working environment, where we put work life balance at the forefront and offer flexible, smarter working arrangements, all underpinned by leading edge technology. We’re open to people working from home for the bulk of the time, but if you’re already in (or would consider relocating to) Norfolk, we think our unique blend of beaches, broads, countryside and culture is hard to beat!
