About the Organization
The Mennonite New Life Centre (MNLCT) is a vibrant, multi-cultural settlement agency for newcomers to Canada. The Centre provides a variety of settlement services, including information/orientation, language instruction, mental health supports and capacity building workshops, public education and bridging to employment. The Centre is a tech-forward charity that utilizes technology solutions to meet the needs of its stakeholders. As a result, several of our services and programs are delivered in a hybrid format, offering clients and participants options to receive services through virtual and in-person services.
The Accounting Administrator will assist the Director of Administration in tracking program expenses and generating reports. This multifaceted position will support administrative, accounting, and purchasing operations. The individual in this role will collaborate closely with the Shared Services Team at MNLCT and will provide financial and accounting support to internal stakeholders.
Responsibilities
- Record all financial transactions in QuickBooks.
- Maintain and update accounting records, including recording and posting transactions in journals and the general ledger.
- Prepare and arrange payments to vendors.
- Work with the Finance Manager to update budgets and expenses.
- Gather and compile documents for monthly bank reconciliations.
- Reconcile accounts balance.
- Prepare and issue invoices and follow up on payments.
- Monitor and provide monthly reporting on expense accounts.
- Assist in purchasing activities, including obtaining quotes, placing orders, and tracking deliveries.
- Maintain the inventory management system to track assets and software licenses.
- Manage building access, security systems, and alarm protocols.
- Coordinate annual building inspections with the partners and book meeting space usage.
- In collaboration with the Director of Administration, provide feedback to the Executive Director to improve the finance process.
Qualifications
- Degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics or related field.
- Minimum 2 years of administrative and accounting experience.
- Demonstrated proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel), database and QuickBooks.
- Well-developed presentation, reporting and communication skills.
- Be a detail-oriented, adaptable and customer-focused team player.
- Be self-directed, goal-oriented and able to manage time and priorities.
- Experience working in non-profit sector in multi-cultural environment is an asset.
- Demonstrated interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
- Fluency in English language.
