Job description
The Operations Accountant, UK is responsible for all aspects of Manufacturing and Supply Chain Accounting for the UK operations. This includes financial accounting for period end close, budgeting, and forecasting as well as monthly management reporting to Operations management. The accountant will also be responsible for product costing, intercompany and interregional pricing, as well as accounting for freight, warehousing, inventory and capital expenditure.
Core Responsibilities:
- UK Operations Business Partner – Serve as the first point of contact in Finance for the UK Operations Team, working closely with plant management at our factory in Goole, UK. Develop and leverage a deep understanding of process and cost flows at the site in order to challenge the team to deliver on organizational targets.
- Planning and Analysis – Budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, and the production of comprehensive, high quality financial and non-financial reports for the local manufacturing site.
- Product costing – Ensuring the accuracy of variable and fixed cost calculations for manufactured products, as well as planned prices for imported products. Calculating and monitoring Intercompany and Inter regional pricing.
- Inventory management – Ensuring accurate stock valuation for all materials held by Ingredion UK. Attend annual stock takes at the manufacturing plant and 3rd party warehouse, review the results of these and other cyclical inventory counts, and verify that differences are correctly posted.
- Month end processes – Ownership of the UK month end process for operations finance, including coordination with the shared service center, monthly accruals and journals, balance sheet reconciliation of assigned GL accounts, cost center control, and purchase order reconciliation.
- Improvement initiatives – Develop ways to improve the quality, efficiency and effectiveness of responsibilities under area of control.
- Statutory Reporting and Compliance – Review existing controls and processes to ensure compliance with the Sarbanes-Oxley Act. Provide support on statutory reporting and audits.
- Internal departments – Close coordination with the European FP&A team, supporting them with necessary information for product profitability analysis, budgeting and forecasting. Working effectively with the broader Europe finance team, as well as with procurement, logistics, and internal audit. Some limited travel to Hamburg European HQ will be necessary.
- Europe Operations Accountant - Supporting on Europe wide projects as necessary, as well as holiday cover for key tasks within operations finance for Europe.
Qualified candidates will have:
Mandatory requirements:
- University degree in accounting, finance, economics or similar, or qualified through experience
- Professional work experience post-qualified CIMA
- Strong understanding of financial planning & analysis in manufacturing
- English fluency, both written and spoken
- Strong analytical, numerical, and IT skills. Advanced skills in MS Office (particularly Excel)
- Experience with an ERP system such as SAP is essential
Desirable requirements:
- Manufacturing accounting experience is advantageous
- Working knowledge of US GAAP and Sarbanes Oxley would be an advantage
- Experience with SAP and BPC or other management reporting systems is strongly desirable
