Columbus Industries is looking for a Junior Staff Accountant based in El Paso. The Junior Staff Accountant will be responsible for maintaining, monitoring, analyzing, financial information and accounting information. Under the supervision of the Manager, the Jr. Accountant is responsible for preparing and posting journal entries, accruals, account reconciliation and assisting with month-end close in accordance with GAAP.
- Prepare and post journal entries to General Ledger (weekly and month end)
- Prepare and analyze account reconciliation
- Prepare and post accruals to General Ledger
- Assist in month-end closing.
- Manage AP.
- Perform daily financial analysis.
- Support Audits.
- Perform departmental financial analysis and special projects as assigned.
- Back up to initiate company ACH and wire payments
- Prepare and issue ad hoc reports
- Train as backup for other accounting functions.
- Research, interpret, and apply compliance with federal, state, and local wage laws
- Maintain detailed records and ensure appropriate filing for each employee
- Ensure payroll-related activity adheres to company policy
- Prepare and distribute various weekly/monthly reports
- Process month-end and year-end closing adjustments, including calculating monthly commissions for salespeople, workers' compensation accrual, wage/vacation accrual, and processing journal entries.
- Manage monthly and quarterly sales tax reporting
- Reconcile transactions with statements
- Ensure integrity, security, and confidentiality of data.
- Perform other related duties as requested.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
- Thorough understanding of the Generally Accept Accounting Principles.
- Strong verbal and interpersonal skills; ability to relate effectively with a variety of people.
- Ability to organize and manage own time effectively.
- Advanced experience in Microsoft Excel and Word, as well as with an ERP system.
