About the role
We have an exciting, opportunity for a new Lead Accountant role to join and manage a small finance team at our Business Service Centre in Caerphilly, to assist in the delivery of a World Class accounting service to the respective Business. This will involve, in accordance with the service agreements, performing accounting and reporting activities on behalf of the business in accordance with Group Accounting policies and requirements
The position requires advanced/well-developed skills and knowledge within the financial discipline involving the integration of theory and principles with organisational practices and precedents. Either a team-leader role overseeing the quality of work and contributing to the effective operation of the team or a technical role managing aspects of projects or dedicated responsibilities within own specialist area. Both roles will have a full understanding of how their own Function contributes to achieving the objectives of the team and the business.
The role will require understanding of business processes and will require interaction with other functions within SSC to ensure that all processes are understood and supported. This include DS Smith Way methodologies (CI) in order to identify and deploy improvements to the services provided. Specifically this role will be will have responsibility for a designated specialist level site or sites &/or Reporting Accountant SME.
Your remit will include but not limited to:
  • Perform and lead a team to Accounting Transactions and Account Reconciliation
  • Perform and lead a team on Financial Reporting & Analysis
  • Lead departmental projects, ensuring projects are progressing in line with the required deadlines and scope.
  • Proactively Leads CI project Initiatives for the wider team to target deadlines with limited support
  • Review and looks for opportunities within role for process improvement and efficiencies and shares with wider team
  • Perform as a minimum within the established principals of DS Smith People Manager Management Standard
  • Guides, coach and manage the performance of self and team members through effective meetings, 121’s and departmental key performance indicators to foster positive working culture

About You
  • Degree or equivalent financial qualification
  • Working towards Professional financial accreditation or equivalent experience
  • 3+ years working within an accounting environment
  • Good understanding of accounting processes.
  • Good analytical skills
  • Good business application skills (Microsoft Excel, SAP, NAV)
  • Responsive customer service and communication skills
  • Good teamwork skills
  • Good time management skills (attendance, meetings, workload)
