What you'll be doing:
As our site Accountant you will report into the Regional Director with a dotted line into the Regional Finance Manager.
You will be based at Cheltenham Racecourse with site visits to other SW racecourses, you will ensure use financial and operational controls for forecasting and month-end reporting.
Being the Head of Dept, you will provide commercial acumen to drive efficiency, profitability and customer satisfaction.
This is not a typical Accountant role with a good deal of self-thinking and broad skills needed. Its not “9-5” as there is a large element of being operational during race days and events.
More about the role:
Ensuring adequate and appropriate financial controls, processes and procedures exist (and are audited) in accordance with the Controls Procedures
Recommendation and adoption of enhancements/improvements of operational controls
Creation of data and trend analysis leading to effective communication which will influence local management decision making
Ensuring appropriately skilled and trained accounts staff are in place to perform day-to-day financial and operational accounting functions
Managing and preparation of management reporting including event forecasting, month-end close down, profit & loss statements, partial balance sheets, budgets, and forecasts
Manage the weekly and monthly process of input into accounting ledgers through invoice and journal postings
Co-ordinate, manage the preparation and interrogation of weekly and monthly profit & loss, KPIs for the unit accounts. Authorship of narratives
Client meetings to review performance and future operations/projects
To ensure the business is complying with all appropriate contractual obligations, and monitoring of contractual KPIs
To ensure all IT operating systems are used to the best of their ability and to make any recommendations for suitable improvements
Liaise closely with divisional and central accounting functions. Assist where possible in spirit of teamwork including Profit Protection
Record, monitor and report and recommend on effectiveness of capital investment projects
Be fully involved in the interviewing, recruitment, training and development of the Account Team
Operationally active:
During the key race days to ensure cash office controls and security, and general commercial management is effective
Event set-up entailing tills, tariffs, credit card machines, training, on-event monitoring and decision making
Further support to the Jockey Club Catering Division including attending other race days such as the Grand National

Who you are:
Key Qualities:
Industry operational experience, part qualified or QBE
Ideally experienced in the operational finance of Sporting/Venue/Events/Hotels
5 years’ experience of the management of a finance function, preferably in similar industry
A dynamic team player with a flexible approach plus self-motivated with an ability to effectively plan and organise own work
Driving license and access to a vehicle as some travel will be required
Excellent communication skills - ability to communicate oral and written information concisely and logically
Computer literate especially Excel
Assertive self-starter with high level of creativity and confidence
