1 temporary full-time position for 4 or 8 months, intended specifically for students currently enrolled in an accounting co-op or related post-secondary work experience degree program, commencing in September 2023

Financial Services is an integrated and interactive work environment with ongoing opportunities for continuous improvement and feedback. Work varies within the area, allowing the student to be involved in different aspects of public sector finance and being presented with new challenges and learning opportunities in each of those aspects.
Responsibilities Include:
- Assist with the preparation of monthly reporting and accounting duties related to operating, capital/debt, payroll & benefits, commodity tax, investments and performance reporting
- Prepare basic accounting entries
- Assist in the review and analysis of financial systems
- Assist with duties related to the year-end financial statement preparation
- Support Senior Accountants with the compilation of data and financial information
- Additional tasks as required
Note: This position may be a combination of working from home and on-site working conditions.
- Currently enrolled in an accounting co-op or equivalent post-secondary work experience degree program
- Basic knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles, requirements and practices
- Effective verbal and written communication skills and ability to maintain strong working relationships
- Demonstrated ability to check and record financial transactions and prepare financial reports with proven attention to detail
- Demonstrated ability using Google Workspace and Microsoft Office applications
- Ability to work independently and with little supervision at times

- Additional assets would be skills, experience or knowledge of:
- Experience in preparing a variety of complex and diverse financial statements, reports, and analysis of accounting data
- Understanding of Canadian public sector accounting
- Knowledge of corporate financial systems and their relationship to departmental accounting operations

Hours of Work: 40 hours per week, Monday - Friday.
The weekly hours of work for this position are currently under review and may change at a future time. Any changes will be made in accordance with the City of Edmonton/Civic Service Union 52 collective agreement and the incumbent will be notified in advance.
Salary Range: $21.545 - $25.135 (Hourly)
