Position Overview: The Payroll/Staff Accountant reports directly to the CFO. They are responsible for all payroll processes including the accurate and timely bi-weekly, full cycle in-house payroll processing for 70 employees. This person also supports the CFO with general ledger and general accounting activities, including administrative functions.

Essential Functions:

  • Responsible for the preparation and processing of biweekly payroll for 70 employees; review, manually enter and ensure accuracy of approved timesheets; track and deduct all garnishments, payroll taxes and other deductions
  • Establish/maintain employee records; ensure that employee changes are entered correctly and made on a timely basis; review changes for proper authorization and adherence to company policy
  • Process related third-party payroll contribution files and payments, i.e. 401(k) contributions, health savings account contributions, etc.
  • Responsible for the preparation and submission of all payroll tax payments and tax returns including 941, FUTA, SUTA and OPT
  • Prepare and maintain accurate records and reports of payroll transactions.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll, wage and hour laws and best practices
  • Process all year-end wage reports and employee wage reporting documents including W2s.
  • Respond to payroll related employee inquiries and support requests.
  • Process responses to employment verification submittals and request for earnings information.
  • Assist CFO with the entry and processing of general ledger entries and transactions
  • Prepare monthly bank account reconciliations
  • Prepare all quarterly and annual Sales and Use Tax Returns for multiple tax jurisdictions
  • Prepare all annual Personal Property Tax Returns
  • Procure and maintain all business and contractor licenses
  • Process monthly general ledger journal entries as directed by CFO
  • Prepare monthly general ledger account reconciliations
  • Assist with special projects as directed by CFO
  • Provide administrative support to the Accounting and HR Department, including filing, copying, payment preparation, etc.
  • Assist with and support annual financial statement audit
  • Assist with and support general liability insurance audit
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Skills:

  • MS Office Suite including Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams
  • Strong skills using and understanding the flow of transactions in an integrated and automated payroll accounting system
  • Ability to maintain a high level of professionalism and confidentiality and exercise extreme discretion
  • Excellent problem solving/judgment skills, and high level of attention to detail and accuracy
  • Strong organizational skills, and the ability to work under pressure
  • Ability to handle and prioritize multiple tasks and meet all deadlines

Qualifications:

  • Associate Degree in Business Administration/Finance desired, Accounting Degree preferred.
  • 3 – 5 years of progressive full-cycle payroll processing experience.
  • Construction industry experience desired.
  • Viewpoint/Vista payroll software experience desired.
  • Applicants must reside in or have immediate plans to relocate to the Denver Metro area. Denver area experience preferred.

Salary Range: $59,000-$75,000 Annual

Potential Annual Bonus: 4%
