Summary:
Avery Weigh-Tronix is a global leader in the weighing industry and is currently looking for a full-time General Accountant. This position is a regional role supporting all branches and employees across Canada on payroll, benefits & general accounting functions,
Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Financial Controller, the general accountant will work closely with Human Resources and Leadership teams.
Responsibilities include:
Payroll & Benefits:
- Process Canadian payroll on a biweekly schedule in accordance with the labor standards for both salaried and hourly unionized and non-unionized employees
- Ensure accuracy in employee data & information and provide various payroll and/or benefits reports.
- Provide information to employees on payroll matters, tax issues, benefit plans, and other benefit programs.
- Electronically submit payments so pays can be issued on time
- Troubleshoot payroll issues and solve them on a timely manner
- Assembling reports of payroll earnings, taxes, deductions, leaves, and non-taxable wages, as well as providing finance department with all other reporting required
- Calculate taxable benefits regarding group insurance, reward programs or any other benefits
- Ensure payroll and all government remittances are respecting all laws and regulations
- Participate in year-end processes and audits (adjustments, T4, T4A, RL1 as well as various reports.)
- Manage Payroll and benefits cases (bonus payouts, parental leaves, vacation, disability, special deductions)
- Participate in different initiatives and special projects related to payroll and/or HR
- Submit employee contributions
- Government relations management CNESST, WSIB, BCWS, ABWS, etc
- Ensure STD & LTD cases are processed and followed through with proper documentation.
Accounts Payable:
- Verify all invoices from suppliers.
- Identify proper GL and post invoices in system.
- Ensure payments are issued in a timely manner.
- Assist accounts with credit card payments.
- Maintain a relationship of trust with vendors to ensure company’s needs are met.
General Accounting
- Submit sales tax monthly federal and provincial
- Prepare journal entries during accruals
- Revising accounts and cost center allocations
- General accounting functions
Qualifications:
- DEC in payroll/accounting or any other relevant related training deemed equivalent
- 5+ years experience in a similar payroll position coupled with knowledge of payroll & benefits best practices and thorough understanding of employment-related laws
- Good knowledge of the ADP system
- A positive and proactive approach towards solving problems and meeting challenges
- Must possess effective oral and written communications skills, excellent interpersonal skills
- Bilingual (French and English), written and spoken is required
- Ability to navigate through ambiguity in a fast-paced environment; keep organized, prioritize, maintain a high-level of attention to detail, demonstrate sound judgment and act with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality
- Experience working with unionized employees
- Excellent computer skills
- Microsoft Excel Proficiency
