Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the Accounting Clerk plays a key role and participates in the execution of accurate and timely financial transactions, activities and reporting in accordance with the Mission, Philosophy, Policies, Goals and Objectives of the Atlantic Baptist Senior Citizens' Home Inc.
Purpose:
To participate in the execution of accurate and timely financial transactions , activities and reporting in accordance with the Mission, Philosophies and Policies, Goals and Objectives of the organization.
Qualifications:
- College Diploma in Office Administration or Business Administration
- 3+ years relevant experience in accounting
- High attention to detail, strong operational understanding, and excellent time management and organizational skills
- Experience working with AccPac/Sage accounting software and Microsoft Office, specifically Excel
- Experience in accounts payable processing is an asset
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
PRIMARY DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
As Related to the Finance Department:
- Provide financial review for the admissions process
- Reconcile accounts receivable for trade and resident account
- Prepare monthly reports for provincial governments (i.e. revenue reports, budget amendments)
- Prepare revenue reconciliation
- Maintenance of any GL accounts assigned, including any journal entries and monthly reconciliations assigned
- Maintain stats for admissions/discharges and complete a reconciliation of resident bed days
- Responsible for updating financial information for residents including pre-authorized debits
- Prepare deposit summary and deposit for the nursing home and resident trust accounts
- Prepare any necessary invoicing for payments owing to the nursing home
- Provide an analysis of revenue for monthly reporting
As Related to the CEO - Nursing Homes / Executive Director:
- Prepare any special reports required.
As Related to the Board of Directors:
- Prepare any special reports required.
As Related to Public Relations:
- Develop and maintain good public relations with the residents, the residents’ families and the community.
As Related to Health & Safety:
- Observe and practice safe work habits
- Has made a commitment to Health and Safety and is committed to doing his/her part in keeping their workplace safe and to safeguarding their fellow employees by:
(a) Observing all rules related to safety
(b) Using equipment as directed in a safe manner
(c) Reporting any safety hazard immediately to their supervisor
(d) Taking part in all Safety Programs provided and performs duties as assigned (ie. Emergency Preparedness, WHMIS, Back in Form and Infection Control).

In addition to the duties and responsibilities outlined for Kenneth E. Spencer Memorial Home Inc., the Accountant assumes additional responsibilities relating to the financial functions of the companies within Atlantic Baptist Senior Citizen’s Homes Inc. as required.
These job duties are only the basis and prime duties of the job; related and allied duties will be assigned from time to time as may become necessary to the operation of the organization.
