Diageo Global Travel
Global Travel (GT) operates in the outstanding and exclusive Travel Retail (i.e. Duty Free) sector. Often referred to as the sixth continent, Travel Retail has its own set of inhabitants, geography and channels (international airport shops, international land border stores, on-board airlines, ferries and cruise ships, along with some non-retail and diplomatic sales) as well as its own outstanding commercial landscape (operating 24/7 across multiple languages and currencies with 200+ nationalities travelling annually).
From Bhutan to Botswana and from Venezuela to Vietnam, GT is the only market in Diageo which offers global scope and market accountability. Responsible for representing and selling Diageo products in more than 110 countries around the world, and with access to billions of potential shoppers globally, we are a strategically important market for Diageo in terms of both profit and NSV.
About the Account Manager Roles
We are looking for 3x Account Managers to join our GT team!
Account Manager: EU & India
In this role you will be a lead contact for the biggest customers in Global Travel (Dufry). The Account Manager role specifically has responsibility in delivering growth plan for Dufry INDIA and part of EMEA business.
Engaging & managing stakeholder relationships will be a driver to success. Market share & value growth are key metrics for our performance, and the candidate must have experience & capability to recognize the levers to achieve goals and overcome barriers.
Account Manager: Heinemann
In this role you will be a lead contact for one of our other biggest customers in Global Travel (Heinemann) as well as a number of their largest distribution customers across the GT Channel (Airports, Ferries, Border Stores etc). Heinemann is a sophisticated and strategic customer on a high growth trajectory, with scope to further evolve and define our longer-term growth strategy and ambitions within this customer as well.
Account Manager: Cruise & Airlines
The airlines business is truly an outstanding channel in travel retail as it goes much beyond the traditional retail footprint, giving one the chance to lead sub channels such as pouring, inflight retail & pre order ecommerce. It’s also an exciting time for the channel with 70% of people traveling as much or more than they did prior to the pandemic. In 2022 there simply wasn’t enough on board capacity to meet the demand and looking ahead to 2023 airlines are predicting it to be the year to return to profitability.
With the redefined ambition, Diageo recognizes the big opportunity and as a result the Airline channel is at the forefront and seen as a key pillar for growth to total Global Travel. The main responsibility will be delivering the growth plan for our existing European Airlines customers, in addition to securing new business. This person will work in tandem with our other Airline account manager and be supported by our Customer Marketing Manager to ensure we show up admirably through the line and engage with passengers at every touchpoint of their journey.
Key responsibilities for the Account Managers are:
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with your customer as well as securing distribution and activation agreements, with major focus on execution
  • Deliver a strong return on investment (ROI) through growing margin, handling spend and forecasting planned activity/ spend throughout the year
  • Own and deliver P&L targets against a full year annual operating plan (FY AOP) in line with our ambition
  • Excellent forecasting skills, across all metrics: depletions, shipments, Trade Spend & A&P
  • Regular audits & reviews of customer performance vs. the agreed commercial scorecard. Holding the customers to account & agreeing action plans to close the gaps
  • Build trade plans that delight our local consumers at the POP and create exceptional on/off-trade experiences for our consumers whilst still delivering category growth and increasing Diageo share
  • Meticulous with volume forecasting, & processing invoice payments
  • Deliver the required local sales measures as per the agreed scorecard – specific execution on distribution, space, promo, activation, category & innovation to deliver brand objectives
  • Handles the governance of trade terms execution, accountable for sales driver audit and assessment for effectiveness of spend.
  • Is instrumental in feeding back insights and understanding to the business through effective M&E and work with CP&A team, Finance teams (CF’sM) and Customer Marketing Managers and drives customer plans that deliver long term sustainable growth for Diageo and our customers

  • Significant commercial experience at a management level within the wider Sales Organisation (including account management)
  • Deep understanding of and passion for consumers, shoppers and categories
  • Outstanding strategic relationship manager with ability to plan strategically with customers and link strategy into implementation
  • Highly commercially aware, creative and astute with strong financial and analytical skills
  • Highly positive problem solver, able to create new possibilities and lead through ambiguity
  • Agility to move from Strategy Planning to Implementation – candidate must have a confirmed ability in developing and implementing strategy, solves sophisticated problems and effective decision making, whilst then also being passionate about execution and being able to drive projects through to completion.
  • Needs to be proactive, driven and resilient – a self-motivator who thrives in ambiguity and can overcome obstacles / find solutions.
  • Ability to gain momentum and to inspire change internally and externally
  • Exhibits consistent high levels of learning agility in all aspects of role – early adopter of new ways of working and platform changes
