Accounts Manager – 12-Month Maternity Cover

An opportunity for 12-month maternity cover for an experienced Accounts Manager with a reputable and well-known company based in Birmingham. The Accounts Manager is a full-time position, but flexible or part-time working arrangements will be considered.

The Role: Account Manager
As the Accounts Manager you will oversee day-to-day bookkeeping duties and manage the company’s accounting, reporting, and control functions. Additionally, you will ensure smooth financial operations. As part of the management team, you will present and report on financial performance to your colleagues and contribute to the running of the business. This key position requires attention to detail, financial expertise, and organisational skills.
Key Responsibilities:
- Produce monthly management reports with full P+L and balance sheet responsibilities, including KPI reporting and variance analysis.
- Generate short-term cash flow forecasts and monitor cash flow and working capital performance, completing bank reconciliations and related cash management tasks.
- Handle base accounting tasks, and maintain general ledger entries, fixed assets register, accruals, prepayments, and balance sheet reconciliations.
- Oversee purchase ledger control, sales ledger, credit control, and expense processing, resolving payment and receivables issues.
- Oversee payroll processing and related tasks.
- Monitor job costing for accurate project profitability assessments.
- Conduct regular financial analysis and provide reports for decision-making.
- Collaborate with internal teams to forecast and track project budgets.
- Ensure accuracy and timely submission of external regulatory financial information and returns (VAT, PAYE, Corporation Tax).
- Ensure compliance with accounting principles, regulations, and company policies.
- Provide office/administrative support, ensuring the smooth running of the business.
- Collaborate with directors and operations to promote financial best practices.
Requirements:
- Ideally, AAT-qualified, QBE, or fully qualified CIMA, ACA, or ACCA.
- Experience delivering management accounts and MI in a busy office environment.
- Proficiency in accounting software Sage and MS Excel.
- Strong understanding of job costing principles.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
