Job description
Accessibility Assessment of Life Science Centre
Would you like to work with a charitable trust that’s unlike any other in the world? The International Centre for Life (or ‘Life’ as we’re known) is a pioneering science village in the heart of Newcastle upon Tyne. It is home to researchers, clinicians, technologists and science engagement professionals who work side by side to help improve the health and well-being of people living in North East England.
At its heart is the award-winning Life Science Centre which provides a varied and exciting engagement programme for families, school children, adults, teenagers and pre-schoolers. Its aim is to inspire everyone to explore and enjoy science and to discover its relevance to their own lives. This has never been more relevant than it is today as we live in a world that’s shaped increasingly by developments in science and technology.
Life is particularly proud of its efforts to make the centre more accessible and welcoming to communities with sensory and other needs and has won several major awards in recognition of those efforts in the last few years. It now wishes to appoint a consultant to build on progress to date and identify opportunities to improve accessibility further.
A consultant is required to carry out Phase 1 of our accessibility assessment plan. This initial phase will focus on a physical access assessment of the Life Science Centre, its nearby Times Square Car Park and an overview of any sensory barriers. The successful applicant will create a baseline framework of key statutory requirements so that we can embed best practice into our processes and measure performance moving forward.
You will have a proven track record of helping similar organisations in the cultural and charitable sectors, an excellent understanding of accessibility issues, and be able to offer practical advice on how we might remove any existing barriers to make the organisation more accessible.
A fee of £3000 is available plus reasonable expenses.
The successful applicant will be subject to a DBS check and details of our DBS policy is available on request.
