Job Overview:
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Academic Proofreader to join our team on a freelance basis. As a Freelance Academic Proofreader, you will play a vital role in maintaining the excellence of academic documents by identifying and rectifying grammatical, spelling, punctuation, and formatting errors. Your keen eye for detail and passion for language will contribute to enhancing the overall clarity and coherence of scholarly works.
Responsibilities:
Thoroughly review academic papers, essays, theses, dissertations, and other scholarly documents for grammatical errors, spelling mistakes, punctuation inconsistencies, and formatting issues.
Ensure adherence to UK English language standards, style guidelines, and academic formatting requirements.
Verify the accuracy of citations, references, and bibliographies to ensure they conform to relevant citation styles (e.g., APA, MLA, Chicago).
Provide constructive feedback to authors on sentence structure, clarity, coherence, and overall readability.
Collaborate closely with authors, researchers, and students to address questions, concerns, and suggestions related to proofreading changes.
Maintain consistent communication with the editing team to ensure a streamlined workflow and adherence to deadlines.
Stay updated on academic writing trends, language usage, and citation style changes to ensure the highest quality proofreading services.
Contribute to the continuous improvement of our proofreading processes and style guides.
Requirements:
Proven experience in academic proofreading, preferably within a professional editing or academic publishing context.
Exceptional command of UK English grammar, spelling, punctuation, and style conventions.
Familiarity with various citation styles (APA, MLA, Chicago, etc.) and the ability to ensure accurate referencing.
Proficiency in using proofreading tools and software.
Strong attention to detail and a critical eye for identifying errors and inconsistencies.
Excellent communication skills to provide clear feedback and interact professionally with authors.
Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and meet deadlines.
Candidates must be from QS Top 100 Universities.
Flexibility to adapt to varying document types, subject matters, and writing styles.
